i have to mufflex 18" but you can just go to a muffler shop and they can do just as good.

no need to spend the extra money if you can go to a muffler shop

alright, so i checked my local muffler shop and he said he can do the magnaflow for 135 installed. he'll have to add some piping he said. he's either going to add one pipe and push the muffler towards the rear of the truck so that it just installs right onto the factory pipes, or make 2 pipes and run it back towards the engine so the muffler stays in the same spot.

My question is...has anyone done the magnaflow without the mufflex kit? how do you they like it without the kit? does it really make a difference in performance if i go with the kit or not. This guy has been in business as far back as I can remember, so he does good work. I just want to make sure i'm make the right decision for my baby.

Thanks!

The "kit" is just pipes welded to the muffler so the back yard mechanic can clamp into place.

Just make sure your shop is using Stainless Steel pipes and you will essentially have the same thing. I will be getting the Mufflex just because I do not want anyone else working on my truck if I can help it.

which route should i go if i just get the muffler? Should I have the guy weld the extra piping from the front to the back? or have the muffler in the same place and have him weld two pipes from the back towards the front and keep the stock location of the muffler?

I would keep the stock location of the muffler. And if the guy uses SS piping, then you have the same thing as the mufflex for less money.

My guy says he will be using aluminized piping. He told me that unless I'm over in the East Coast where there is constant rain and snowfall, I really shouldn't have to worry too much about the pipes rusting out. I live in so cal where rain and snowfall is not a frequent occurence. But he did offer me an option to buy the stainless steel piping. It would cost me another 50 or 60 bucks, because he has to order a 10 ft long pipe. But I'd only need a couple of inches, so the rest would become his, I guess.

What do you all think? I'm just trying to see if the guy is actually being sincere and giving me the right info and trying to save me money, or just trying to make a sale. He seems like a stand up guy and been in business as far back as I can remember, but you never know...so I thought I'd turn to my fellow Ram buddies and get your opinion on this piping issue. Would it really make that much of a difference if I got aluminized piping instead of stainless steel?

Thanks again!

Aluminized is raw steel with a coating to look good at first. Rusting will come from the moisture that develops while the exhaust is cooling after each run. If humidity is low, then there will be lower, slower corrosion. But eventually the coating will flake off and you will be left with a rusting pipe. What about the hangers for the Muffler? Are those going to add to the price? Before you know it you have the price of the Mufflex system.

I would get SS. Your entire exhaust is SS. The new MF is SS. Make the pipes SS. Unless you plan on trading it in within the next 2-3 years.
