Towed the crawler a couple times these past two weeks...towed like a dream. Everything I was looking for. Around 5000lbs gross with the trailer. No problems...loaded right with very minimal sag.

So it seems like everyone towing up to about 5,500 - 6,000 lbs has no problem with sag or steering, but if you're shooting for 6,000 - 7,500 lbs then it may be a different story?

As mentioned before, truck tows my 4,750 lbs boat better than my '07 did.

Hmmmm....

I have a 31' Cougar Travel Trailer that comes in at 71xx lbs dry. I KNOW it's more than what the truck is rated for, BUT it will only tow that for approx. 15 miles TWICE a year. My old 98 Ram 4x4 1500 Sport Quadcab towed it from Pembina, North Dakota to Winnipeg, Manitoba then to West Hawk Lake, Manitoba, with NO problems.

I'm hoping the 09 will be at least as capable.

if you load it properly i dont think you'll have much of a problem...just give yourself plenty of room

...well i got the 2004 1500 Laramie with the 5.7 hemi, i got the overdrive and 17" wheels on it. I'm thinking to put a fifth wheel hitch on, so i can pull a cattle trailer. No idea about the trailer, all I know is it has 2 Axles and is about 24 feet long. I was asking my self, if I'll be able to install a 2500 suspension (leaf springs) in the 1500, to get rid of the sag. Could not find any info about changing the leaf's.

i hope you know that you posted in the wrong section cause this is the 2009 Ram section, nothing else

Just wondering how much sage is ok?

Not to sure if I bought the right truck now...I have a 09 SLT ram 5.7 hemi with 3.92 and 17" tires and 6.5 box. So far I have found that I need a special bracket for my fifth wheel and now maybe air bags for the new suspension. I'm, glad that the brake controler should only take 10 min as I picked up the harness instead of wiring from the battery and finding some wire in the nest of wires under the dash. My camper is 5700lbs plus wife and kids crap I'd say 7000lbs. The specs say 8500 so I thought I was fine.

I have an09 with the 3.55 gears and the 17 inch wheels 5.5 box and my trailer at max is 7500 lbs with all the gear iI am pretty sure that with what we pack in it including kids and wife it only gets to around 7000lbs I have towed it and the only complaint that I have found is a side to side motion of the truck and trailer in strong wind which seems to accentuated(spelling) by the coil over shocks as for power and performance works great a set of these should solve that http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...-air-bags.html

I have laramie crew cab with 3.55 and 20" rims
I recently pulled my ford 600 tractor with a 6 foot disc on my heavy duty dual axle trailer, it figures out to about 5800lbs. It pulled great with no problems, the rear of the truck will squat, but I felt comfortable driving it and it felt very controlled and acceleration was not a problem. Much more weight than this and I would consider a 3/4 ton. I pulled this same set-up with my 00 Chevy and 05 chevy 1/2 tons with no problems as well but not as much acceleration, but with leaf springs it didn't seem to squat quite as much. They had 3.42's

Why is the trailer weight rating so much less for the 20" wheels? Is it a clearance issue in the wheel well or a tongue weight problem?
