Ok we are kinda getting somewhere with my question haha.

I know how to reset the message by turning the key to on and pressing the gas pedal down 3 times in under 10 seconds.

Now how do you set the intervals of when you want to be reminded when to change the oil? Is there something that says every 3000, 4000, 5000 miles to have a reminder message stating CHANGE OIL or not? Is there something like this??? I didnt see anything like that in the manual.

Not in the setup within the info screen? Just thinking out loud, I do not have my truck to try yet... That is where my GC was, my 05 Ram did not have an oil reminder.

On a side note, if you bought it new, just change every 5K. Makes it easy... 5, 10, 15, 20

That sucks. I would have like to set mine to 5K. Not to big a deal though, like I said, when my odometer hits a 5K mark I know it is time

oil change message started around 2650 miles. Still read about full on dipstick. Had it done at 3000. Truck computer obviously never read the owners manual or it would have waited till 6000. Not worth running synthetic if this is going to be a 3000 mile thing here...

I think the way it works is in between a "dumb" message based only on miles traveled and a sophisticated system that actually measures things in the oil. If it's like my '08 honda civic was, it was based on an algorithm that estimated oil life based on a number of factors monitored since the last oil change. I think the average distance traveled PER TRIP since the last oil change was one of them, as well as oil temperatures, outside temperature, speeds traveled, etc. These things are easily monitored by modern engine management systems, and can be used to calculate a pretty accurate estimate of oil life. The civic actually displayed percentage of oil life remaining. It would turn on the oil change reminder light at 15%. I bet our trucks do something similar, which explains why the oil change reminder comes on at drastically different mileages for some of us. My truck will turn 4000 miles tomorrow, and it hasn't come on. I also live 35 miles from work, so my daily trips get the oil good and hot.

Not trying to hijack this thread but you mentioned the setup option in the EVIC and I realized that I have a lock symbol next to mine. Is anyone else locked out of their setup?

I should not even post this but, mine was locked too and well I did something and the lock dissappeared so now I am into everything. I have to get out there and see what all and if it is locked again. I was at UPS and playing with it while my wife was in there, so we didn't have time to play. When I got home I have to get out and do some stuff. I don't plan on going anywhere with it right away, driving my 72 chevy right now. Since I cannot get into the truck very easy.
