Default amp location

So I ordered my 2 10'' sub box from fox acoustics and looks great underneath the rear seats! Next I want to run the component wires and ground/power from the stock amp to my aftermarket one behind the rear seat. Someone told me the stock pioneer amp is located in the passenger dash. I took apart the glove box and only found this bulky black compartment. Is the amp in that or is somewhere else????

You'll need to run a new power and ground. I would take it to a shop and have them do the install. There is no way that the stock wire will be able to supply both amps, unless it is a 4 maybe 6 gauge wire, which I doubt. Do it right. The last thing you want is to turn the stock wire into a fuse, besides you'll probrably pop the fuse anyway. You could however use the signal (turn on) wire to turn on the new amp(s). If that's what you meant, sorry, just don't want you to overload the stock electrical.

I have no problem running new power and ground wires. I just want to split the component wires (L/R) at the stock amp, but I'm really questioning the location of the stock amp

I am in the same boat myself. I have the stock stereo (no Alpine) was wondering if it uses an amp.

well I took apart the whole dash and glove box and see nothing that even closely resembles an amp. I was thinking the stock head unit would have preouts so I could use a adapter but...NOPE! So I'm running out of ideas pretty fast now.......any help would be greatly appreciated

found it! under drivers side panel left of steering column...and they didn't use preouts either....so looks like more wiring to be done! If anyone wants pics or help just let me know! Also crutchfield support was really good over the phone and seems like they may have the wiring diagram but it is not posted on the website yet

If you want to use the factory head unit, this is what you will need to use for pre-outs.

No you do not use an amp.

As for the OP your Alpine amp should be on the drivers side behind the kickpanel. Previous models had them behind the glovebox. You'll need a lockpick or a lineout if you want factory outputs. I would go with the lockpick because you can have signal degradation on the lineout

why do I need a converter? I thought I just could just splice into the pre amp wires (rear left and right speakers) and buy preouts and splice into those

Because it all depends on the voltage that is being sent to the amp. With a converter you can control that. Some factory amps simply amplify the power already being sent to the speakers.
