Rear backup cam retrofit
Hi Everyone,
Proud new owner (delivery early next week) of an 09 Laramie in stone white with the REN nav radio//// most options except have a back up cam which i really hoped to get considering I pin a few times a day.
I know that mopar accessories (on the net) lists the cam as available but my dealer told me that it had to be ordered with the truck.
The connector hole in the back of the bed is there so no cutout is required, it should just be a simple case (famous last words) of installing the wiring and replace the tailgate plastic protector that houses the handle.
Has anyone done this ?
I cant seem to find any prices on the website any ideas?

Welcome to the forum, great people with great advice on here. You will learn a lot from them. I have asked about the parkview camera and have found it to be on national back order forever. I would recommend to you to purchase a truck that has it already, you will have a difficult time ordering one and actually getting it anytime soon. There are several different items you can purchase that allows a camera to be installed (Lockpick or NAVTV) I did not want all the other features of those, but would love to have the parkview camera. You can check them out on other post. Welcome aboard. You will love the truck!
Thanks for the warm welcome
I was afraid of that.
I checked it out with the salesman, we looked and looked and looked, there was nothing available and with the factories closed I was SOL.
My lease is due in late august and my allotted milage is already past and gone. so I had to buy.
There was one available with the cam but it had the ram boxes. Being in construction the boxes took too much space out of the bed and it prevents me from putting a cap on.
Cheers

I would love to hear about this too. My truck has neither the camera, nor the locking tailgate. It's my understanding that the camera is in the gate handle. Is this correct? Would I automaticaly get the locking gate if I got the backup camera?
What a fiasco Chyrsler has caused by putting out an option that is actually standard but on early models not there. Now I asked my dealer about this he said it's common practice, hell I knew this I worked at the B van plant as well as the Minivan plant. I stilll think they should retrofit everyone with a locking tailgate at least the manual one and if you have keyless entry then it should be hooked up as a trunk button. Would be the fair thing to do. Now that I spent a hundred bucks on the Pace Edwards power lock they probably will. No problem I have a hundred uses for this lock. In fact now that I have one maybe I will wait a few weeks to install it. Just in case LOL.
I totally agree.
To buy a new truck especially a top tier model it should come equipped with what is considered a basic function.
Few owners don't close off the box for the purpose of safe keeping their things. It's just common sense. Fine a bottom of the line work truck I can understand.

I wish the tailgate lock was auto. That would be handy too. Just seems like an oversight to not power it. Oh well.

If you have the locking tailgate and power locks(keyless) you can have a solenoid added or do it yourself for I think around a hundred with OEM equipment. Will work off your keyfob.
