The Revised MDS Light How-To.
I'm about 30 miles of interstate to work and this doesn't happen for me at all. I've tried a few different speeds from 50-70, and can only get the 'fuel saver' indicator to display if i'm going down hill, or decelerating ever so slightly, never ever have I seen it while maintaining a cruise at any of these speeds (I have seen it while maintaining 45mph). I have a really steady foot, I've seen the indicator come on while driving slightly down hill (very slight), but when I put the cruise on, the indicator went out.
I would otherwise assume it was a gimick feature if people weren't posting that they see it on full time with the cruise set at 70mph on the flat. I live in florida, its very flat here and I simply am not seeing this. ~900 miles on my truck atm, I was hoping it was just a break in thing, but I don't think thats the case.
Never the less I'm gonna put more miles on and see how things go after the first oil change, maybe I just have a tight motor.

Not that having MDS is any good to my wife. She gets 12-13 in the Aspen and I get 16-18 in the truck. Mrs Leadfoot borrowed my truck for 4 days last week. Guess what it did? 12-13!
The speed that it will work at depends on the your rear axel ratio as it based on engine rpms. Those with it working at 70 must have the 3.21 and we who have the 3.92 must drive 55 or lower. It only works up to 1500 RPMs.
How do you know this?
Strictly from observation of my truck and reading the observations of others in this forum. I agree with Inbred abou the loading. The loading decides the gear ratio for the transmission. If I'm doing 1500 RPMS and on flat surface then the MDS works. Any incline to the road will kick it out even though the RPMS haven't changed. MDS likes 55 and 45 in my truck. After I get a toneau I will be interested to see if with less resistance I will see MDS at different speeds.
RPM has little to do if any on the MDS being enabled, its more due to load/resistance and the effort required to maintained that speed. RPM will go up when the MDS is on as well. And i've actually had it on while going up hill at some slower speeds ( < 45mph ). The 4x4 vs 4x2 theory is credible though, and could be the difference and why I don't see it at 70. As afaik my MDS is functioning normally. Hope to have a tonneau cover soon, hopefully that helps.
This is something I am wondering. Should the RPM's go up when the MDS is functioning or down? I know that I had a Durango R/T with 3:92's and on the highway at 60mph it would rev over 2grand, now this truck with the hemi and 4x4 like the Durango revs somewhere real close to 1500 at 60mph and it has 3:55 gears. No light, glad I have lights what I think is all those things that come on auto should be things that you turn on or of as needed, off automatic turn them on when needed, nothing worse than turning something off and the light comes on....so assbackwards. I am just wondering if this MDS is doing anything. If I were to find out that it is not working properly what are my options? How do I prove this? I didn't care about it till I read this stuff LOL. Now what ? I am gonna call the dealership and tell them a friend has a truck, I need a vin and we got together and went in each others truck and his light came on alll the time and mine never did we have the same truck so I need a VIN with 3:55 and 4x4 Crew who lives close to me...Hey Bounty when was your truck built?
