UUUGH Valve stems!
I was getting my truck ready to bring it up north on Wednesday when I noticed that the metal valve caps on 2 wheels had corroded to the metal valve stems. I sprayed a little WD40 on the cap and then lightly twisted the cap with a socket wrench.....YUP you guessed it I broke a valve stem. I work 12 hour days from today until Wednesday and wont be able to get my truck to a tire place until the day I'm supposed to leave!!!! I sure hope this thing doesn't leak air because it looks like its going to have to wait until I get back from up north.
Anyone think this will be covered by the warranty or will I have to pay the 50 bucks each for the replacement valve stems?

I was looking at mine yesterday when polishing the wheels for the first time. I was shocked to see the metal stem. Did not consider the rust issue though. I was thinking of picking up some chrome caps though.
Well I suggest everyone check their valve caps and maybe put on some anti seize on the threads. Especially those who live where they use salt on the roads to melt the snow.

When I washed the truck last week, I noticed the metal stem and thought it a bit odd. I am taking the truck to the dealer this next Saturday for a few thing and wonder if they would put chrome stems on while they had it.
The stems are a part of the sensors. As mentioned, Anti-seize lubricant is probably the best thing. I'm gonna slap some ky jelly on there.
OP, thanks for the heads up.
When I first read the title, I thought- Oh ****!

Mine has the metal stems but black plastic caps. I wonder if this was a change due to this happening? My truck was built Feb. 20 My wife's 07 Grand Cherokee has the metal caps. No problems on them yet.

I guess its time to go buy me some of those tire pressure valve caps that turn red and yellow when your air pressure is getting low like I have on my other vehicles. I realize that the computer nowadays on these things warns you when it does get low but I dont reckon it would hurt to have a back up system anyhow.
odds are the stems are metal because they are connected to the tire pressure monitoring system (made standard on all vehicles in 2007/2008). the corrosion problem could be why the new rams sitting at the dealership have plastic caps on the tire stems. saw it on friday while waiting on my truck's oil change and SEVEN rapid response transmittal fixes. hmm...
