Lightbulb Daytime Running Lights

I really was a little surprised that the new Dodges did not have daytime running lights. Now after doing a Little more reading of my owners manual, I noticed that all Rams sold in Canada have a DRL system installed. Now I do not know if DRL's are required in Canada, but I wonder if maybe it could be some type of a relay, etc, that I would need to buy to also have DRL.

Does anyone have any idea's?

DRL are required by law in Canada, I think it could easily be added, I would start by asking the dealer what dodge has available otherwise maybe a search of the forum could yeild an answer as to how to do it.
Cheers

Thumbs up Answer found

I have to give special thanks to MOPOWAR who set up the service for download. The manual says:

"DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS
Vehicles manufactured for sale in Canada illuminate the high beam filament of both headlamps at a reduced intensity when the engine is running, the parking brake is released and the exterior lamps are turned OFF. The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) must be programmed appropriately for this feature to be enabled. Once enabled, anytime the TIPM receives electronic messages over the CAN data bus from the PCM indicating the engine is running and from the EMIC indicating the status of the headlamp switch exterior lighting input is OFF and that the parking brake is released, the TIPM provides a pulse width modulated voltage output to the proper headlamp bulb filaments through the right and left high beam feed circuits to produce illumination at a reduced intensity."

So I will call my dealer and see if maybe I can get a price and if it is possible/not to expensive I will get it done when I go in for my first oil change.

I find it's funny how we tend to want what someone else has; mine has DRL (Canada), but I find there are times when I don't want them. For example, when you roll up on the cottage a night and you don't want everyone at the campfire to feel like they are at a night ballgame. Nice to be able to shut them down from time to time. I disconnected this option in my last truck to get this kind of control.

Funny, did you know all cars in Norway and Sweden MUST run with lights on during the day? That is probably why you see all Volvos and Saabs with lights on during the day..

It would be great if this DRL feature were "selectable" - perhaps active only when Headlights turned to "Auto". But that would require a "difference" to the legal requirement for Canada, so our best hope is probably to get the Dealership to simply enable that "Canada-only" selection.
For myself, I'd want DRL as it is one way to help your vehicle stand out from the heat-mirage effects on long trips across desert asphalt. And when on 4x4 trails...

I just want to added that if I have my wiper system is enabled, my full lighting system will come on during the day including dimming my NAV system like it was night time. But I believe you can disable that in the Vehicle settings.

Just wondering if that's another Canadian setting or everyone has it?

thanks, Richard

My Canadian truck does this also. Why are the wipers connected to this feature? Do they assume that if it is raining it is dark enough to dim the NAV display? Seems too 'automated' for my taste. Still learning about this truck though. It only happened to me today for the first time. Can't remember what setting I had chosen on the dash...
