Default Anyone have Bakflip HD?

I think they sent me the G2 instead of the HD. I only got 6 mounting clamps, pivoting arm is zinc coated and doesent seem that rigid.

I ordered one yesterday. Should be pretty easy to tell, the HD is aluminum on the outside of the panels and the G2 is some sort of plastic. Also the G2 is supposed to be 1/2" thick and the HD is 5/8"

Judging by your description I'd say you got a G2. Where did you buy it from?

BAKFlip HD has the following refinements:
  • Panels on HD are 5/8" thick vs 1/2" thick for the G2
  • The BAKFlip HD's textured flat aluminum surfaces on all panels have two coats of epoxy primer that is baked on at 460 degrees. This entire expoxy primer coating process is completed twice (first coat applied, baked on and cooled, and then the process is repeated). Once the two coats of primer has set, an extraordinarily tough and scratch-resistant polyester based coating is used as the final finishing coat (which gives the look of a tough, baked on enamel, but is much higher quality). This coating process ensures that the covers is both scratch and UV resistant.
  • The 2 stage enamel process makes for a final finishing coat that is more of a factory look
  • The BAKFlip HD's core is 25% more dense than the BAKFlip G2. As a result, the BAKFlip HD handles approximately 25% more distributed weight when compared to the G2. The HD is much more rigid then the G2.
  • Quality and Rigidity Standards Endorsed by OEM - The BAKFlip HD® is an Original Equipment Part for one of the Big 3 Automakers
  • 2 year warranty for the BAKFlip HD vs. 1 year warranty for the BAKFlip G2.
  • Powder coated pivoting arms - (G2 has zinc plated)
  • Integrated tie down points underneath and on top of the cover (“D” Rings placed at strategic points under the cover).
  • Extra Set of Clamps (8 clamps) provided for added rigidity (4 on each side). The G2 uses a total of 6 clamps.
  • The BAKFlip HD has a higher quality finished look when compared to the BAKFlip G2 because of the 2 stage epoxy primer on the HD.
  • For an extra $250...you get the absolute best product for your truck with the BAKFlip HD

Default Bakflip HD or G2?

This is a good question. I ordered an "HD" and picked it up. When I got it home I thought "This is a G2". The part number was for a G2 (26203, should be 35203), there were only 6 clamps, the instructions were for a G2, etc. Then I wasn't sure about the material as when I tapped it to see if it was aluminum it was hard to tell because of coating on it, it sounded somewhat metallic but also like plastic with a coating. I called the shop and discussed it with them, they assured me it was an HD, their numbers in their computer weren't changed when the HDs started coming. They said that they have an agreement with the manufacturer to get only HDs but they come in a G2 box. It all leads to unnecessary confusion. At this point I am still not 100% sure that I have the HD. It would sure be nice to know that I got what I paid for with the extra $250 I spent.
The main issue is with the manufacturer. They are producing, marketing and selling a new product but their online support (pictures, instructions etc) for the HD is weak. I want to see pictures of a HD and a G2 so I can compare. I also want instructions for a HD not for a G2 etc. It is frustrating paying considerable $ for something and having a lot of unnecessary questions, uncertainty and hassle because they feel that "Coming Soon" is an adequate response when looking for info from them.
Having said that I am happy with the "HD?" that I have so far. It is still brand new, no water test etc yet but looks good. It is just too bad that you have to open the cover every time you want to close the tailgate.

Have you measured the thickness? And does your cover have the d-rings under the cover?

Now you got me concerned, I hope the correct cover shows up when they ship mine. I bought mine from JCWhitney, but their part number is ZX539173

[quote=oldjeep;1690746]Have you measured the thickness? And does your cover have the d-rings under the cover?

Measuring the thickness is not a very exact science, especially since you are trying to distinguish a difference of 1/8 inch. You can't get directly to the panel and it is not smooth, there are high spots and low spots, part of the textured coating. Yes, mine has D rings, it also has the support arms, arm stay locks, elevator bolts etc as shown in http://www.bakfliptonneaucover.com/installation
which is the description on how to install a G2. That is the issue with the lack of info on the HD, you can't compare and say "yes, that's what I have". Especially when the box shows up with a G2 part number.
