Default High beams + fog lamps

Is there a way to get the high beams and fog lamps to work together? I see that if you pull the turn siginal lever back to the "flash-to-pass" the fogs stay on. I was checking and did not find a relay in the engine compartment fuse panel for the fog lamps. Just wondering if its possible to do or if its computer controlled? Thanks in advance.

it's all computer controlled. You would have to use a hot line and relay triggered by the highbeams to jump the circuit.

I can only speak to Canadian law, but the use of high beams and fog lights simultaneously is illegal.

Not only illegal but makes sense, ever turn on high beams in fog? What would be the reason? Suicide in the fog it would be, that is why the fog lights light under the fog.

I for one do see the allure of having the fog lights still working with the High beams. The thing is if it was foggy you would not even be using your high beams at all, so it would not be a problem to have them still work with highs for dark roads. I do not even use my high beams right now because when I do my fog lights turn off and I lose a huge portion of light that I had close to and on the sides of my truck only to gain some light a little farther ahead.

I would use the high beams more if the fogs stayed on rather than pulling back on the stick.

I am going to check the service manual to see exactly how it is wired. There may be a way to rig something up.

I am pretty sure the high beams need the power from the fog lamps. The fogs and highs together would require a larger wire to handle the current.

exactly, which is why I suggested a separate hotline (forgot, should be fused) to a relay, then to the + side of the foglight. Use the +12 from the high beam to trigger the relay. So when the highbeams come on, the circuit straight from the battery jumps the normal wiring. The problem is, because of the way the electronic control works, such a setup would cause the fogs to always be on when the highbeams are. Would need a way to switch the ground if you ever wanted them not on with the highs. Darn computers make it hard to tinker with anything these days; I miss the old days when all you had to do was tape off a relay tab.

You are going to have to hook a scan tool up to the truck and have them turned on. I added my fog lights after I purchased my truck and I had to take it down to the dealer to get them activated. The tech will have to select "export" in the menu. If he does that, you can have your fog lights on with the high beams. I did not ask the tech to do that he just did it on his own. I was very surpised to see that my lamps stayed on with the high beams. I am not complaining mind you. It is aginst the law to have the fogs on with the high beams.

I am not exactly sure how the lamps are hooked up but everything is controlled by the electrical bus in the truck.

I have an '08 truck. I am sure '09 is similar in this regard.

That is exactly why I would want the high and fogs on at the same time. I think this is the first truck that I have owned that the fogs work so good and the hi and low beams are so poor. I guess I will have to adjust the headlights. I know its not legal to run them this way but I will take my chances. I thinks the cops have better things to do than pull me over on some county road because I wanted to see better at night. I would not use the highs when its foggy out.
