Default 5.7 mild mods with great results.

Id been reading some threads on this site a while back, but just joined. I have an '09 TRX4 with the 5.7 and 3.92 gears. I did the following
- Lou's custom exhaust (went to worcester MA shop - they've got a bunch in MA and NH), 3" stainless, removed the muffler and resonator, tip is now in front of rear tire. Used a Lou's turbo muffler. Highly recommend this shop, fit 4 mufflers and picked my favorite after hearing them all. Their brand muffler uses heavier gauge stainless than flowmaster or magnaflow as well. $325 (military discount). - Mine did not have factory duals.
- Trueflow XDI intake $350
- Airaid throttle body spacer $125 - I know some say they don't do a damn thing but i figured Id give it a shot.
Total cost $800
Result: Gas saver mode comes on about 600rpm lower around town with same light driving habits. 3 mpg better around town, 1.5 better on highway. Quicker throttle response, very noticeable difference in the "fun to drive" category. Sounds great, very quiet at idle, almost stock, but sounds mean wide open.
Just food for thought for anyone with the 5.7

Nice. Good choice on the TRX-4.

Default TB effect?

I dont know if it made any drastic improvements but it combined with the intake makes for a good rush sound of air coming in. Both combined with freeing up the exhaust makes for a damn good time. I smoked my fathers E500 4matic (i know its not a sports car) over the weekend .... no contest.

There was a time when fuel was injected into the throttle body. the TB spacers claimed better atomization of the air fuel mixture before entering the head and combusting. Before that carbs mixed the air and fuel.
What you have now is a throttle body that only regulates air. Fuel is delivered directly into the head via the fuel injectors.
My point is nothing but air flows through the manifold these days.
Someone explain to me how a throttle body spacer does anything in an EFI engine.
Seriously! I see this claim over and over on EFI engines. This forum and others.
I do get more air equals more power. Superchargers work especially well to add power...as does NOS.

Google "venturi effect" and "burnouli's principle". The spacers aren't just spacers they increase velocity of the air by creating a vortex. This in turn increases fluid density and a cooler air charge. It's sound in principle but I'd have to see dyno and air/fuel efficiency figures before I spend $125 to see if it truely works.

Default TB spacer

I completely understand the concept. On a 40k truck, $125 was next to nothing, my question was are there any full throttle bodies available that are proven for an 09. I didnt find any so I picked up the spacer.

and the air continues spinning past the intake manifold selector valve then down 8 short runners or 8 longer runners then past the intake valve one cylinder at a time....

I am with you...anything to add power. Have the XDI on mine and like it for several reasons....despite the nay sayers here. Each to their own.

Here is a thread on a ported throttle body.

For me it will be Christmas when Diablo writes or calls and tells me the 2009 Dodge Ram Hemi Predator is done. Anything we do right now will be mostly nullified by the ECU...ESP in these trucks. We can make it sound more powerful! The XDI HAS increased the gas milage in my truck

Cheers

The issue of the XDI making the truck lose power started when an AEM rep dynoed with it on and said it was worse then the stock intake. It could be hype to get people to buy the AEM.

Only way to find out about HP increases is to dyno the truck before and after. An hour on the dyno should not cost more than 200$ and would prove the products work.

X2 on Diablo.
