Default talked to the OWNER of bakflip today, read this!

it was pretty interesting. well here is where my problems began. i bought a bakflip hd. shipped directly from them so i knew it was actually an hd. the directions were for sht. i called to ask some questions and ending up talking to the engineer, designer and owner. all in one. lol. nice guy, strong accent. english i think?

anyway. i have a sport 4x4 quad cab. when i put the rails on, then the top, the 2 bolts up front would not come close to catching in the plates. (guys with bakflips know what im talking about.) after about 30min. on the phone i think we concluded the problem. when you put the rails onto the bed rails. they need to sit basically level.well once i started looking at it, my rails were tilted up slightly, to moderately in some spots. my cover wouldnt close right ect. so the fix for tilting rails is adjusting where you clamp the rails together.so in my case i need to adjust the clamps down a little to make the alum. rails bend down/level again.

the quad cab bed, tapers 3" from the cab to the tailgate measuring side by side. he said the cover is matched for that taper.

in turn that will probably make my holes line up in the front. i probably lost an 1/8th to a 1/4 by them "turning up".

hope this makes sense. hope it helps. i will try to post some pics this time to potentially help some other people avoid what i did.

dont get me wrong, it went on and worked. but not that great. or at least from what i thought it should. it is an excellently designed and engineered piece. just the directions arent as specific as they should be for "perfection". mine leaked a little in the sides. im positive after talking to him its from my rails being out of wack.

I installed two in one day. The first one on my 09 Crew cab took les than 30 minutes, and then did the one on my sons 09 crew cab in less than 20 minutes. Nothing to it. Two rails, 3 clamps for each rail, the 3 hinge cover, and 2 nuts and bolts with washers to hold it down.

Installed mine in about 30 minutes, fits perfect no problems. I thought the directions were decent, there is only so much direction that can be given on such a basic install.

This is why the forums are here not to tell someone. oh you dumbass I did mine in 20 minutes people are looking for support and why yours went so easy compared to theirs. I am like you probably never read an instruction fully in my life but some people require them it's just the way you are. Anyway I bought another brand of tonneau and the directions sucked, we had to actually do some fabrication, it happens to all of us. JMHO

Hey i'm just saying on a DIY basis or scale this would be considered basic, and theres only so much in detail you can go for something like this.... I see what your saying but u made it seem like i'm calling this guy a dumbass which was no intention of mine...
