I'm trying to find different ways to increase the "get up and go" in my truck! I've started with the XDI True Flow Instake, have the mufflex dod14m on order, and now i'm looking into this gear ratio deal. What benefits come with changing to the 4:10 front and rear? Should I even bother changing if I don't plan on lifting? If changing to the 4:10 is a good deal, should I do both front and rear?
The higher the gear ratio, the higher the RPMs to reach the same speed and the lower the MPGs. You'd feel that you have more power when you hit the gas, but you'd run slower at the top-end.
If you have 3.55s, it would be a good change. If you have 3.92s now, then it is not worth it, it is not a large enough change. Figure on about $1000+ per axle for the swap.
Going from 3.92s to 4.56s, I lost about 8-10% fuel mileage, but the driveablility while towing is well worth it.

1000$ per axle with or without a new locker/limited slip?
Approximately $1000 per axle for ring & pinion, installation kit (seals, bearings, hardware) and labor. New pinion and carrier bearings are necessary, as they don't like to be pressed off and reused (been there, tried that, bad thing).
