I have to agree with oldjeep on removing the cats. I did this on my 2000 dakota, actually I just gutted it out and reinstalled the shell and all it did was leave me with a high pitched ringing that was very irratating. No performance or mpg gain at all. When I put true duals on my 99 QC, I put high flow cats on each pipe. That truck ran great with true duals and eventually I ended up installing a dual in dual out high flow cat, with a dual in dual out flowmater 70. It ran even better and pulls very hard even though it's 12 years old now. It's just my opinion that there are too many good aftermarket high flow cats available to not have them installed. I don't really give a damn about greenies, but don't see any reason to pollute either if it can be helped. Jeff.

I've never been on a dyno, so I have nothing to back up my thoughts. But any time you eliminate cats, spark arrestors, and that sort of treehugger equipment thats one less thing to choke everything out. I don't believe for a second that removing them won't make some sort of difference in power.

And as far as emissions.... Don't worry old jeep. If I decide to modify my cats theres plenty of granola munchers driving Prius's here in Maine that'll make up the difference and keep the ozone layer from caving in.
I don't think 5, 10, 20, or even 30 hp gains would be easily noticed on a 6800lb truck. I don't think I will ever delete my cats. Maybe one day I will put true duels on. I would love to cam it though any thoughts on that?

I think 30hp is a noticeable difference for sure... ask someone who went from and '08 345hp Hemi to an '09 390hp Hemi.... I thought it was very noticeable...

And remember- when you do a 5hp upgrade here, and an 8 hp upgrade there, and then a 10hp upgrade they add up

That's more than just HP. It's gearing and other things. If you put a tuner on your truck and it adds 35HP you wouldn't notice it. You would notice the shift changes but not the hp

ummm just turned 44... happy birthday to me... got an 09' 1500 3.7L Thursday nite... happy b-day to me. have had no time to do anything to it yet, however, I intend on a cold air kit (suggestions please), a toneau kit (suggestions again please), nerfs.. (no need for suggestions here), and a class 3 reciever hitch. so there you go.. nothing extreme. I likely will keep my first dodge truck till it goes to the salvage... at least.. I will if it performs like the 02' GC I traded in.. had 187K and ran like a new one. My dad has an 88 dodge half ton 318. is ready to roll past 400K any day now.. wanna pass him up .. we'll see.

Im not sure how removing the cats wouldnt improve power. Have you guys actually looked into one, there is so much **** in there compared to a piece of pipe in its place. Not to mention it sounds a hell of alot better.

31 years young!! Many, many, more to go. I am glad that we have such a great diversity and different opinions on this forum. Sometimes a little wisdom and experience is what the youngsters need to answer the tough questions, but I can also appreciate the value in the new ideas and the imagination of the youngsters.

25 years old here. I am in the same boat a lot of the young guys are on here. I bought my '06 Dakota Night Runner in '07 by myself and then traded that for the '09 Ram and am paying for that myself. The reason I can do this is that my parents have allowed me to stay at home and save up. Not that buying a Ram is saving up, but it makes making the payments on it a lot easier.
