I've got an '09 Sport with chrome clad rims and only have 800 miles on it. The rims have some kind of oxidation and what looks like a stain. I thought it was just from the tire foam when I bought it. After washing it several times, it's not coming off with soap and water and tire cleaner. Is it okay to use Never Dull on these type of rims or what do you guys use? If it doesn't come off, would this be covered under my warranty to get new rims? Thanks

 

Do not know what never dull is, but you can use a light polish compound on them. Just do a small area first to see how they react. You could also run by your dealer, let them look at it and let them either replace or use what they say, just in case it messes them up. If they were like that when you picked it up they should have cleaned them anyhow.

On a side note I wish the sport rims did not have that indent on each side of the spokes. It does not really add to the looks and makes it harder to clean.

 

I would use a Wax with a cleaner in it. I'm not sure about Neverdull but have used Turtle Wax Chrome Polish in the past. It isn't too abrasive, at least from my experience. But it will leave a white residue on the tire so one of the newer waxes may work better. Just be careful as if abrasive, you could scratch the covers.

 

Neverdull is that Blue container of wadding that you grab a spot and polish till it turns black. One thing you should know Chrome clad is plastic....i don't think Neverdull is for plastic. I think that Turtle wax Ice wax is good for plastic but I would check. Or just take it back be sure not to tell them you used tire foam they will blame you, just wash the tires with a brush and your car washing soap...as far as they know you haven't used anything and this has appeared, maybe a dog pissed or cat even? I would start with dealer under warranty.

 

Not saying he created the problem but, if he used tire foam and this caused the problem why should they not blame him...

Getting a wheel replaced under warranty is not easy. Owners use different chemicals on the plastic that is not meant for plastic and then want a dealer to pay for their mistake. To take it to a dealer and expect it to be replaced for free when it may be something you caused is fraud and dishonest. The chrome clad wheels are very durable and do not usually discolor unless something like road salt or another chemical causes it... The warranty is for manufactures defects not for owner caused issues. Not saying the original poster caused any issue or is at fault.

But I am directing this at those who think it is ok to cheat the system and have no integrity. Be a man, if you caused the problem, pay for the repair.

To the original question, never dull is not meant for the plastic cladding. Take it to a dealer to see if it is a defect of if it was caused by something else. If it was caused by the tire foam, it is not a warranty issue

 

My only issue with the tire form is the way he worded it sounded as if the dealer put it on.

Reguardless tire form sould not stain the rims anyhow, do not think that is the issue here.

 

The issue is not everyone realizes Chrome Clad means plastic. I did not know until I leased a Charger that those nice rims were plastic coated. I just put up an Ebay ad to watch out for 330341654852 its the wording. He is selling a chrome clad radio. If you are not aware you would jump on that and buy it for 295 thinking you are getting a Nav radio loaded.....chrome clad wheels, same thing to me. Auto companies have little acronyms and name for stuff like plastic chrome to make it sound better. You should work there and here what some of the the parts are called, anyone know what the boat anchor is?chmsl? that is an easy one.cat whiskers?

If the proper research wasnt done before a new vehicle purchase than there's nobody to blame but yourself.... No fancy dealership acronyms, chrome clad means exactly that..plastic rims clad with chrome. And FYI...Parts/Service does work in the industry
