Default carpet ruined!!

Tried a search but not sure what words to use, a piece of materal (carpetlike on 1 side, black sticky tar on the other) was laying in the passager side floormat Saturday, u could see were it fell on the carpet on its way from under the dash to the mat, best described as tar, sticks to carpet and hands just like roofing tar, I figered out that it goes around some ele. box under dash, it stuck back around the box and looks as good as new except for the stain on carpet, talked to bro n law ( see "twin truck "post in general 4th generation forum)and he said his did the same thing only it was just hanging from dash, he stuck it back but it came loose again, took it to his dealer and he just stuck it back but has stayed so far, he never fell to the carpet,it was @ 104 degrees outside and must have loosened the tar, anybody else have this problem

I posted a picture on the other board, it stuck when I pushed it back but was falling down again after work, got the tar out of carpet with Castrol Super Clean but now have a plastic bag in the passenger floor to catch it if it falls all the way off again, since my dealer was shut down the closest one is 50 miles away, closed on Saturday and closes 15 min. after I get off work, I am really upset how some customers were left with no Dealer help without taking a Vacation Day from work!!!, In the picture it is in the center at top, corner of floormat at the bottom, not sure what its supposed to look like wrapped but it felt like it was stuck good till I looked at it again today, picture exceeds my allowance but it is under other Forum---- D......talk.com under interior and exterior

This exact event just happened to me. One afternoon, I go to my truck and find a stick black carpet on my passenger side floor. I was considering ripping out, but it must have a purpose. Part of the sound proofing?? Protecting passengers from burns??

Not worth going to the dealer for, but plan to have it fixed during next scheduled maintenance.

Thoughts??

This is a pretty popular issue. I have seen and been part of a number of threads about it, but they may have been on that "other" dodge site.

It appears to be some sort of insulation on the AC condensor. Mine kept on falling off too and when it completely fell off I finally fixed it.

It is still sticking and its been about a month now. I went to Walmart and picked up a cheap can of spray adhesive, layed the peice out on a peice of newspaper in the grass and just sprayed the crap out of it with the adhesive. I then put it back up and just pressed with all my might all around to ensure a good bond. The next day just a corner was hanging down so I sprayed it again and sprayed the condensor it was to adhear to and pressed firmly again. Now it's staying just fine. I guess next summer will be the ultimate test.

If I had to do it again I would spray both the material and the surface that its going to bond to.

Good Luck!

there's been numerous threads about this, i superglued mine back up there and it hasnt fallen off since... Good thing about superglue is that the carpet can still be forcefully pulled off if need be

the stuff falling of is caled mastic it's put there as a bandaid fix to cover a noise from the H valve in the ac system. If your is falling offf remove it and throw it a way and clean the box or have the dealer do it .if you can here your H valve hissing they have new parts that will fix that not all trucks hade this it was just a short run
