Only the molded flaps that contour to the sides of the fenders potentially will rub the paint. Happens on all the brands with that type of flap. On my buddies Ford, they rubbed his paint off but it rubbed on the plastic flare so no issue. Adding some type of clear protective tape is just a preventative idea. It's up to you and depends on where you live as to whether you need protection or not. They use tons of salt around here in the winter so you don't want bare metal.

 

Look like the same mudflaps I just ordered. Need to get them on this weekend... Considering it is technically illegal in WA for me not to have them
