BTW, 3 inches of free play sounds EXTREMELY tight. I have 30" inches and get tired of having to watch so close when I'm pulling in sometimes. Not to mention that if you plan on leaving your trailer hitch on, that's going to add atleast 3 or 4 inches. Not trying to discourage you, just hope that if parking this thing in your garage is a major issue, that you know what you're getting into.

 

I second that. You'll love the truck enough to add-on.

 

Wow what are the standard where you guys live, my garage is 18 wide by 24 feet deep, called a car and a half. 264inches deep, right? I will try it next time the chevy is not in there.

 

thanks for all the replys - I live in McKinney, TX (suburb of Dallas). my house was built in 1994 so maybe that has something to do with the garage size. frustrating to say the least. never know if I find the truck I want it may just have to live outside for a bit - only thing I would worry about is all of the storms we have every year (I had to get a new roof 2 years ago).

 

My garage at the house is something like 22' x 24'. I built a second garage out back that is 30' wide x 40' deep. I actually built it before I built the house.

 

I built houses for about 10 yrs during the late 70's most of the 80's. Garages during that time were pretty much considered a place to store the stuff you didn't want to keep inside the house. Also, shortly after the gas crunch of the 70's people were moving to smaller cars and since a garage was not considered to be part of the sqaure footage of the living space they tended to get smaller. The curb you're talking about were installed to keep people from driving through the wall into their house. It was a city code in most Texas cities. What it ended up being was a place to store the lawn equipment and still be able to park your sub compact in the garage. I hate my garage, it's small and only will fit my wifes Honda Pilot when it's cleaned out which is just about never. I even built an 8x8 storage in the back to keep all the lawn stuff only to have the garage fill up with other stuff. We just had a new wider drive put in so we would stop hitting each others cars with our doors. We are thinking now to get a car port for shade, bird **** , and hail protection. I swear my next house is going to be a giant garage with a kitchen, bath and bedroom built on. Jeff.

 

you pretty much summed it up 100%. we both have 4 door cars and yes we have lawn stuff and a small fridge (for adult beverages) in front of them and that is about all the space we have. like you my next house will have a huge 3 car garage with shop room IN FRONT of my big a$$ truck

 

I did not have that luxury since my lot would not accomodate it to begin with and my house is old. The garage is separate which is nice. Once the above pool outlives it's life, meaning it looks brand new I broke my back installing it, I think it had something to do with my paraplegia but anyway I want to build a separate single garage just to store my old chevy, with some heat and a/c in both or put some type of attached part with a door to keep the chev clean, no dust. Looks like this year is gonna be the one, nobody swims in it my daughter floats on it and suntans...she is 20

 

My new Dodge is exactly the same length as my F150 Crew Cab was.
I need to back in to make it fit over the ledge you talk about. Rear end has more clearance. I can't leave my hitch on - although there is hole in my wall that proves I someyimes forget. I back up to a pile of bricks to help me stop just before the wall. This leaves me about 1.5" of clearance when my garage door comes down. Not sure of garage size, but the house with attached garage was built in 1970.
