Sup fellas, Just bout an 09 quad cab sport. The 06 g35 was totalled and I decided to buy a Ram. Cant get any more patriotic then buying a Dodge on the fourth of July. I love this truck. I was pretty active in the Infiniti forums and had lots of luck and advice. Starting over now and here goes. I lurked around for a day or two looking for a little info on the intake systems available for the 09 and have not had much luck or promising reviews. I called auto anything and they said the AFE and the Air Raid systems were the only one that they carry for the 4th gen. Any insight on these two brands and any othe options I should think about? I went with a drop in K&N panel replacement until more kits are available. The stock airbox seems pretty unrestricted. Pull the stock filter out and check out how the box draws air from the fender wheel and appears to have a "snorkel" that runs to the front of the truck. I've not looked father than that but looks to get a good amount of cold air with the stock set up. I've also not seen any power gains posted from changing to a complete intake replacement, only an increased in intake noise.

 

I really liked the looks and features that the Volant cold air intake has but it seems that they dont make them yet for the 09. Are the AFE or Air Raid similar in design or do they mainly have a cone in the engine bay?

Yes autoanything.com sells the throttle body spacer. It seems the consensus from people on here is that the spacer is a waste of money. I remember of one guy actually buying (can't remember who) and he said it helped. There is no real info to back it up though.

In terms of the XDI, I know some people have talked about it not actually being a cold air intake since it just pulls from the side of the radiator (inside the engine bay). Although, everyone who has gotten it has been happy with it...i think. Maybe someone can actually post a factual argument as to why the XDI is or is not good.

To me, the Airraid seems to work out well. My buddy has that one and he got a 3 MPG increase out here in Hawaii. That's the only truly noticeable gain without going to the dyno.

I just wish that all these CAI didn't cost so much. Come on, 300+ dollars for some plastic? I think I may end up just replacing the stock intake hose. The stock intake is a CAI. Just the hose has all those ruffles on the inside. I wanna get a smooth hose/pipe and a high performance filter. To me, that'll save me some money and get me the same effect as going out and buying the Airraid or True Flow set ups. I may not get the intake noise, but noise is for the exhaust not the intake.

 

Yea. I am not real sure on the XDI. I did stumble upon a Mopar cai and it looks like it sits in the same spot as the stock filter except there is some kind of shield that prolly block some of the engine heat. I also saw that air raid system and am kind of curious about the MXP series. I just found a pic of the mxp and it looks like it still uses the same box design with the snorkel going into the wheel well. I think this one might the right buy for me. I will have to sleep on it...

 

i'm with you- replacing just the tube with a smooth one and the filter with a high flow drop in would be enough flow for the engine without a supercharger sucking more air.

 

There are many opinions on CAI's here on this forum. I will give you my two cents. I installed the Airaid MXP series in my truck two and a half months ago and have absolutely loved it. MPG increased and the sound is amazing. I paid $200.00 including shipping from 4wheelparts.com when they had a 15% off sale. I know there are alot who don't think CAI's are worth the $ but to me the Airaid was worth every penny. Oh! I added a Magnaflow 14 Agressive muffler too, also worth every penny.
