Did a bunch of us dummies get the ram with the 355 gears and wondering why we can tear out of a hole like a bat out of hell? Sounds like desperation out there, or people with more money than they need, sure save 18g's on a truck and spend it on stick on chrome and air breathers that really aren't proven yet. You want to feel more power and you are in a 4x4 get some 4:56 gears, a different cam, maybe headers and real duel exhaust somehow get rid of torque management and esp then you will be driving what you thought you bought.
I don't think there's anything you can do to really make up for the 3.55. Of course the 3.55 really isn't that bad. I've got 3.55 in my Sport. Sure, it doesn't launch like the 3.92, but it'll still run like a scalded dog. I plan on eventually swapping out the 3.55 for a 4.10 and adding a LSD .
U know I only had my truck a day before I put exhaust and that airaid on it. I didn't drive it enough to notice a difference in power but it did make it a little louder. But if anything it looks damn good lol. I know the truck runs like a bat outa hell.
Just remember, the biggest killer on our trucks is weight. We have a lot of it.
Like mentioned, wheels kill acceleration. The lighter, the better.
Cams are great except we have that thing called VCT/VVT. We need a company that will grind us one compatible with the system, or at least dyno test a current one. If you don't know, there is a "phaser" on the front of the camshaft that advances or decreases camshaft timing. Any old cam may not work.
A torque converter upgrade may be a hot ticket, if there is one compatible with the PCM/TCM.
Gears are good, except when you hit the highway. Higher numerically on the highway = lower gas mileage.
