You're right, hounddogg, it doesn't. The best thing is just dry the evaporator out before you put her in the stable for the night. You will have no smell.

I chatted the other day with a Cadillac service advisor. He said same deal still and the only fix/cure is using fresh as much as possible and letting it run on hot a few minutes before shutdown.

How common is this problem. Is it widespread? I have noticed no odor from my AC. And it drains like a horse. I can run the AC from remote just for a few minutes and when I back up there is at least a cup of water on the ground. The truck is level.

Seems some folks have a more sensitive nose I guess.I've handled complaints about stinky ac for 3 decades on several different manufactures vehicles.I smell mine in any of my vehicles once in a while on the initial first blow of air coming out.I never give it a second thought. Some folks it must irritate the heck out of.My wife has what I thought to be a super sensitive smeller. She says she smells it but it only lasts a few seconds and its gone.I smell my house cooling system when its turned to HEAT for the first time in months. Then again its only briefly and its gone.To be honest some of the ones I handled you could smell cologne/perfume/body type smells mixed in with like plastic smell but different, more faintly rank in MANY that I remember complaints from.As I sated before I think there has been MANY Tech Bulletins on the subject from all the manufactures I dealt with over many years.I NEVER had any one tell me that a FIX took care of it more then a few days.Had many tell me it was FIXED until a few days or a week went by then were back in my face with a WHAT NOW.I had a service advisor once tell me to take a cloth like a dish towel.Put a healthy amount of FEBREZE on it,fold it neatly and lay it under a seat.Said it was the closet thing to a FIX he had ever seen/smelled.LOL. Said to renew it weekly or bi weekly. Some of you all may want to try that.

And if it's raining out, be sure to run your heater too.

i have had a 2009 dodge journey for 1 year now and the ac has started stinking in it this summer, i will try these solutions to see if it fixes it but lately my wife has been having breathing problems and i really hope it is not due to this problem. i also found the cabin air filter behind the glove box only to find out that there was no filter in the compartment, is this supposed to be this way?

Default take it from a service manager

every night when i go home, about two miles from the house, I shut the ac off and run the fan on high. My evap drains and I have no smell in my ac system. BG makes a great ac evap clean if your ac is moldy and then you should be fine.
Also, sometimes for some it is only the first initial blast,. Start it up in foot mode and switch it a few seconds later.
The shut off works well for me.

I had this issue with my Mustang, two Ford F150's, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and My Ram. I initially thought it was from me smoking in my car's and the smoke finding it's way into the vents. It only happens on initial start up then it's gone. Can't be any worse then the cigarette smoke.
