Default Speakers - Tell Me What You DID!!

I've done a search on here concerning the upgraded Alpine system that comes in the Laramies. I've read alot of posts from numerous members and have read what you where thinking about doing but very little in the way of what you actually did. I am interested particularly in hearing fom people who kept the factory HU and upgraded just speakers and if it made a difference, as I am not going to change the head. And when I say speakers, I'm really talking about the doors and the replacing the sub (one sub, not doubles).

I don't want BOOM or shaking windows, just crisp, clean sound with volume.

I replaced all my speakers and got no sound differance. The system is set up with crossed over speaker outputs. Even if you have full range speakers yous sound quality will not change. You have to swap everything

I have been into audio for years ...so first thing to go was the factory speakers. They sounded O.K but I wanted something much cleaner sounding. I thought of doing separates which is probably the best way to go, but decided to purchase some high end 6x9's to make the job a little easier. I purchased 2 pair of Diamond Audio's for the doors and added a pair of separate tweeters in the dash locations. They did sound much better than the stock dual cones and set me back $240.00 for all six speakers. These I added to the stock REN stereo.
I then decided to go all out. I do recommend you replace the stock speakers if you want crisper cleaner sound and don't mind spending money for new speakers.
One rule of speaker buying...trust your own ears and buy what sounds good to your ear. You're the one listening to them not the salesman.

REN- Headunit
Lockpick (video out to two Sony 8" Dvd Monitors)
Diamond Audio 90x4 to Diamond Audio 6x9's in doors (dynamat behind)
Diamond Audio tweeters in dash
Diamond Audio 400x1 to two Boston G210 subs
AudioControl 3xs Crossover
2.0 farad Cap
PAC CHR-3 plug in line out adapter (no splicing)
1/0 power cable from Battery to splitter

I got the 2 sets of the Mopar/Kicker 6X9s for Xmas. Installed them today. I have a crew cab. THEY DO NOT fit in the front door but they fit in the rear. Sounds so much more loud and crisp than the stock ones. I may do a set of components in the front.

Sounds like you got the wrong ones.

If you have the premium system:
Front= 77KICK42 (includes the tweeters)
Rear = 77KICK29

If you have the standard 4 speaker system:
Front= 77KICK41
Rear = 77KICK29

I installed them in my 05 Ram and they made a huge difference over stock. But it was the standard 4 speaker system.

I don't think the Alpine speakers are the total source of the problem in this case though as depending on the source, the sound varies quite a bit. The Sat for instance sounds like crap. Fm radio better. And a CD or IPOD, much better. So IMHO, the HU is partly to blame.

I agree with topgun the source makes a big difference. I was very disappointed with the Sat, but CDs and well ripped mp3s sound crisp and clean on the premium alpine. My only complaint is the sub. It hits pretty good, but gets overwhelemed with intense music. I plan to add a JL sub (or two) in the future with a dedicated amp.

I replaced all my speakers (including trimming the fibreglass inside the front doors) and emplaced a Pioneer Nav unit in the dash. The stereo sounds EXCELLENT compared to the stock setup. There is no mounting depth restriction in the rear speakers but the mounting depth in the front speakers is probably best to be kept to around 3 1/4". You can find my thread of how I went about fitting my speakers in my doors here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/4th-gen...xperience.html Good luck to you.

I have the premium sound system on my truck. I noticed today that the speakers in the front doors sound like crap. There is absolutely no treble coming from them, and what sounds do come from them are very muddy. The speakers in the rear doors sound fine, as do the others.

Any ideas what is causing this? I can't imagine this is normal sound for a "premium" sound system???

UPDATE - evidently what I'm hearing is how they are supposed to sound: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/4th-gen-ram/225640-ram-premium-sound-system-alpine-9-speaker-question.html

I am not impressed at all. There is no way that a premium system should have speakers that sound this bad. Dodge really messed up on this one.

I replaced all my speakers with Kenwood speakers, I then added an amp and two subs. I have dynamat on all the doors, floor and rear firewall. Sounds really good in my truck without any rattles no matter how high my bass is. I think the mat makes a big difference. I have the OEM touch screen non-nav HU.
