Default WOT Question

I was wondering if anyone has noticed a strange sound as the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd under WOT. It almost sounds like some sort of a pressure release. I have had my ram for 2 months 6,000 miles completely factory quad cab 1500 4x4 hemi sport and the truck has done this 3 or 4 times since I brought it home. I also had a 08 dakota for a rental that did the same thing. I just wanted to know if this is normal and if anyone else has had this happen or knows what it is?

it could be an air intake sound - I have the same sound on my Acura TL once I took the air intake resonator off. It sounds like a vacuum/pressure release/whoosh sound. Like you say I only hear it on my car under WOT

That is a good description of the sound. If it is the air intake shouldn't make that sound everytime under WOT shifts from 1st to 2nd? I am not a mechanic but that is a question in my mind.

What you hear is the factory computer limiting the revs to protect the tranny from damage during WOT hard shifts. Our trucks have a lot of computer nannys built in to corral the 390 ponies from busting up the drive-train (I think the Dodge bean counters/lawyers made the engineers do this to save money down the road because of the lifetime drive-train warranties). Do a thread search, this topic has been discussed at length before. Hopefully the aftermarket programmers coming out will fix this problem because I believe our trucks have so much more potential.

I know I don't hear what I should, the tires screaming for help as 390 horses try to rip them apart.

I agree that tires should be screaming at that point, but due to torque managment the ESP and what ever is causing this sound we all know that you are lucky to get the tires to chrip on dry road when it hits 2nd gear. With that much power it should do more than chrip the tires.
