3.7 engine?
That's good mileage, about how much of that is highway? I have a 3rd gen v6 and I get around 18.5 mpg w/ mostly around town driving. I think the 4th gens are a little lighter and they are more aerodynamic, so that may explain the difference.
Oh I would say 85% HWY.. however... I don't drive the prescribed 65MPH on the HWY.. Our Turnpike speed limit is 70 and I do 79 because the troopers generally do not hassle you until you are 10 over on the hwy... so I'd say milage is fantastic for runnin 79 MPH most of my driving
LOL The Harley wants some new parts. Please send the Alimony and Child support ASAP!!!
At the Dodge store I worked back in 1998 a tech their said 'everyone that buys a v6 truck ends up not liking them and trading.I found out over time he was just about spot on with that remark.Lots of low mileage used V6 trucks on the used car lot for a number of years.I see it hasn't changed.Bet the same thing with Fords and Gms.
3.7 in the Ram has 215 horsepower, 235 lb-ft of torque.
Curb Weight: 5,200 lbs (for SLT Quad Cab 4x4).
24.19 lbs per hp.
3.8 in the Jeep Wrangler (and Pacifica mini-van) 202 HP, 237 lb-ft of torque.
Curb Weight: 4,180 lbs (for 4-door 4wd Wrangler)
20.69 lbs per hp.
The 3.8 is not sufficient for a Jeep Wrangler (I know - I have one). So point taken, I can't imagine how something similar would be in the Ram.
I've never driven one but it sounds like the v6 has plenty of power if its rated over 200 hp. If its getting good mileage then then i see nothing wrong with it.
I once drove a 91 ram 250 with the 12v 160hp cummins... less than 400ftlbs of torque. Hauled 20k up steep grades, sure it was a couple of seconds slower than a cummins 600 doing the same job but it got the job done with much higher mpg's.

I realize this thread is probably over but. I have the 3.7 L in a regular cab, and I only get 15 at best in city. Its about as much as the Hemi, it takes more power and gas to pull a heavy truck. But I do have to say its not deadly slow! You can still pass on roads and highways. If you have to shoot yourself onto a busy road. You can! I know its now real sport truck but I like that its not underpowered. (But in hindsight, might as well have gotten the Hemi).
well as for me.. all I can say is.. this truck will go as fast as I want.. passes traffic just fine.. gets decent milage.. and as I said didn't break my bank... Brand New 09 Quad cab 4X2 for $15.5K + sales tax. stickerd at 23.7K I got that deal just before cash for clunkers.. and now.. I cannot find even an ST for less than 17K so I have no complaints.... sure I'd like to be like the guys in the commercials... "I got a Hemi !!!" but oh well, I got a V6 that does what I wanted it to do. My only complaint with the damn truck is.. I am still getting the damn ABS and traction control lights popping up on my dash, and I don't have keyless entry...can probably take care of both of those problems.
I test drove an 08 with a V6 and it seemed to have plenty power (dealer told me it was the small V8, found out different when I opened the hood), but like I said it felt like it had plenty of power but I doubt it would be good for any pulling. I've owned a 97 F-150 w a V6 since it was never had any problems with it and seems to have sufficent power. It got 250k on the clock and i aint blew it up yet. Of course between it and the small V8 was only 1 mpg difference though, that allways made me wished I had bought the V8.
