It was almost entirely looks for me. In mid 2008, I was still getting my finances ready for a new crew cab lariat. Loved pretty much everything about it. My previous vehicle was a ford, as well as every single person in my family (inlaws included). But then the 2009 F-150's rolled out, and I nearly had a heart attack. They were awful! Still are. So my option was to try and find an '08 that i liked, but would almost immediately be considered an "old" model, or look elsewhere. I'm glad I did. I had initially ruled out the 3rd gen rams because guys I knew complained of really rough ride, and I wasn't a fan of the cab options at the time. But the '09 ram really hit it on the head. Great looks, good features, very competetively priced, smooth ride, plus it will look like a new truck for atleast several more years, which is nice too. Kinda wish they didn't make the new f-150 so ugly though, it kinda had some nice things going for it, but they ruined it with the looks. As well as a lot of their new models. I really don't know what ford's design department is thinking right now, but they need to be replaced.

Good feedback guys. I know I loved my 2008 F250, the truck really had no issues. I stopped to look at the '09 Dodge just to see if the reviews were on target or just crap. One look inside and one test drive overnight was enough. The design was far superior to the F150 both inside and out, and like oldjeep says, the Ford interior looked cheap and was stiff looking with all the hard plastic surfaces.
I still feel like a traitor everytime I pass a Ford, but then i remember I just "passed" a Ford

my last truck was a 2004 f150. Not only were the 2009 150's ugly as sin, they are still underpowered. I got a truck with some muscle in it, much better looking, and much cheaper than an equivalent f150. Couldn't be happier.

Had a 2007 F150 SuperCrew, 5.4l, 4x4. I loved that truck but the motor was a dog, not comfortable, and rough ride unless you had 600lbs in the bed. So when I test drove the Ram, with all the power, comfort I made the switch. Now I have an 09 Ram CC, Hemi, 3.55, 4X4 with the SLT plus group and a few other options that would have cost me an arm and a leg on the Ford. The extra horse power in the Ram with the dual exhuast, man oh man what a truck. Good bye Ford, Hello Dodge!!

+1

My last truck was a '99 F-150. It gave me 10 years of relatively trouble-free service so I figured on buying a new F-150 when the time came. That changed after I drove an '09. I was less than impressed on several levels. I drove a Ram the following month and was instantly impressed with the look, ride, and of course the Hemi. Employee pricing, cash incentives, and 4 years financing at 0% interest were just icing on the cake.

Hey NMFORDMAN, I am another fellow New Mexican who just switched back. My last three vehicles were all Ford trucks and I really enjoyed them, and thought I was going to purchase a new 2009 Ford F150 Crew FX4 too, but after a test drive in the new Dodge Rams with the 5.7 Hemi, I had to buy the Dodge!

My last three Fords:

2008 F250 FX4

2008 F150 4x4

2007 King Ranch 4x4

I guess technically I owned 4 Ford trucks before my current Dodge as I also had a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport which was still a Ford product back then.

But glad to give them all up for my Dodge, especially since tomorrow it is getting some major attitude with a 6-inch lift. Dodge set the new bar IMHO!
