Default Yay....Oil Change Light Worked...But is useless.

So I changed my oil at 3,005 miles with Valvoline Synthetic and registered my truck on their site for the 300,000 warranty, just a bonus I guess.

Wondering when the light would come on, it finally did today, at 5,305 miles. No big deal...except that the system is absolutley useless, and almost a nuisance, for those who religioulsy change the oil every 3,000~ miles. It would be so much better if you could at least program it yourself to go off at your own actual intervals.

3000 is NOT the norm anymore.Waste of oil.Real waste of the oil you just used.Do some reading on oils and the oil life monitoring systems and you will find that its NOT useless.Follow the oil change reminder or 6 and 6. The oil you used is good for at least 7500 miles in a Hemi. They are known for being easy on oil. Most SM rated oils that are now required are good for 6k. Do some reading on a boring site.www.bobistheoilguy.com The oil change now system is pretty sophisticated.Folks with GM cars rave about it. There is more do it then just a mileage counter.

X2, 3/3000 was created by the quickie lube shops. Hell, if you do that why not go to 1/1000? The computers today are very accurate in tracking how the vehicle is used. Constant free-way driving, lots of towing, all city stop and go, outside temp, etc. It bases the change on that which is most correct.

Besides, what does time mean to oil? If it only has 1000 miles but it's been in there for 6 months or more, why change it?

Have you changed your oil yet Bubba or waiting when the light comes on? We have almost 7000 kms on ours with no light yet.

Yes it's been changed at 3000 mile intervals free from the dealer.

uhheemm....you act as if I know nothing about oils and you are schooling me which made me laugh. The light is absolutely useless if you have some people saying their light went off at 2500 miles and others at 10,000 miles. Nobody drives their truck so hard in conditions that would make that much of a difference not to mention it can't detect fresh oil......so what is it really doing magically that many of you think it is????. If it can't be functional then it is useless to me. I drive no different than most others would be normally. To further it, the 300,000 mile warranty from Valvoline is only good for 3,000 to 4,000 mile periods which is why I remain in it at 3,000 intervals. I change mine at 3,000 miles because I like my truck...I am not one to worry about money as I make enough to not flinch. (Its only $25) I will acknowledge the oil I drained was not super dirty but who cares..it gets recycled anyway. I thank you for your input though.

You need to reset it. Place your key in and turn it to the on position 9Do not start the motor) and press the gas peddle 3 times then turn it off. Start it up and it should clear. If it doesnt work the first time try it again and then start it. It should clear.
