Exclamation Road Force Balance. Why?

So as some of you know I've had issues with my tires/shimmy etc. I'm going to take it to Discount tomorrow to have it Road Force Balanced. My question is why is this now "necessary" I'd never heard of this until I starting having issues but why did spin balancing always work with previous cars? If it helps at all I've got Mickey Thompson Classic II's and 33x11.5 brand spankin new Nitto Terra Grapplers.

The dealer had mine road force balanced a couple weeks ago and it didn't help. I have the typical shimmy like you have.
It was like 80 bucks and it wasn't covered under warranty, fortunately the dealer took care of it because they balanced my wheels prior to this and took responsibility.
If it was out of my pocket I wouldn't do it, but you never know it could help yours.

Road force gives a more exacting static balance, so it's recommended for cars that tend to have shimmy problems. Problem is that if your vehicle is that sensative to balance, that any tire wear or muck on the rim will cause the same problem.

Last time I'm going to say it: Dynamic Balancing

Alright, just e-mailed the dynamic balancing guys because my tire size is a little funky. Looks like the whole setup is pretty cheap. Did you have the shimmy problems before you used it? From what I'm reading, it's a once and done deal correct? One last question. I just read that you can't use the applicator with the TPMS system. How did you install the beads?

TIA

You are not supposed to even use beads with the TPMS system. You can get them in by slighty taping a plastic bag so it will open easily and take one side of the tire off then put it back together and fill it up. I don't know why you are not supposed to use them with the air system. I remember the best way was when they used to balance your tires and wheels right on the vehicle. That was the best.

I have not used them in the Ram. I have had no shimmy problems with my Ram, it rides like a lexus. I use the balance beads in the 35" mud tires with rock rings on my jeep.

You break the bead and dump them in. Even if you can use the valve stem method it takes forever doing it that way. I did one tire that way and the rest I just croke the bead and dumped in.

Gotcha alright well I had my truck all day at Discount Tire. Luckily I got a VERY involved manager who did a little of everything. Balance, Force Roab Balance, Silver fingering or something like that.... anyway right now they are MUCH better. The front still vibrates very slightly and the *** end shakes a little. I'm ordering hub centric rings through them and having them installed to see if it will make up the difference. Fingers crossed. Will keep everyone posted for future reference.

Ive had to do this every time I get new tires and it helps get rid of the shimmys. If you dont your tires will become so choppy youll want new ones before they are even wore out. Also dont let them put alot of weight on each tire. They can spin the tire on the rim 180 and reduce the weight needed alot of times.

Ya I had big Chevy 3/4 ton 1985, had a big lift but too small rims and tires. So I bought some befitting wheels and tires. Well I have to have a steering damper put on the front to get rid of front end wobble. But I watched the guy balance the tire he would spin it on a machine that only spins it slowly then he would mark tire and rim with a mark and number then record it on a paper and when he got to where the tire and rim matched up the best and took the least weight he put it there. I had no problems ever with those tires, They were BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's. Also they had just minimal weights on them especialy on the outside in fact a couple had none just on the inside. The biggest weight was like 2 inches, not sure of the weight amount, and on the inside of one rim. It probably helped the fact that those were good tires, I want to put them on my truck now but they are expensive.

Well I talked with 4wheelparts in the meantime. They are who I got the rims from. They are going to try and balance the wheels/tires I have and if they can't balance them, replace them with a set of Pro Comp Xtreme Alloys (flat black). If at that point the rims/tires can't be balanced properly, I'm taking it to the dealership. Two sets of tires, two sets of rims. Gotta be the truck at that point.
