i know my exhaust manifold bolts are ok i checked them no broken ones no loose ones and no leaks and the recall was for the passenger side manifoldthe peace of crap not impressed
Just got mine back from the dealer, ticking caused by 2 ehaust manifold studs broken on left bank. Drilled and replaced along with new gasket, no more tick.
I purchased my '05 Dodge Ram 1500 almost a year ago. I never had a problem with ticking. I installed a set of Borla headers and still no problems but once I changed over to 5w20 synthetic oil I began noticing a ticking sound only when I accellerate. (It may still be ticking after I lay off the gas but I don't notice it)
Is this ticking coming from the sythetic oil or perhaps a bolt of two broke free from the headers. I think I'm going to have to further investigate first thing tomorrow morning.
I have not noticed any ticking but on my last oil change, the dealer told me there is a service bulletin to replace the manifold bolts to eliminate ticking noise from the engine
In my case, I know that it isn't an issue with bolts. I replaced the stock manifold system and installed a set of Borla headers. I am quite certain that the issues that I am experiencing are with the lifters. Since I am using synthetic I am going to change the oil and put in half a bottle or Lucas synthetic in. Hopefully, I will notice some difference.

You are most likely correct that it is in your lifters because I went through the same ordeal. Mine would do it close to oil change time at crank up and last until the lifters pumped up (a few seconds). I could actually feel the engine begin to run smoother as the ticking went away. I read up extensively on this and it is the MDS causing this but it is not a serious problem. The fix was either change the lifters to I believe to 6.1 lifters or put a high volume oil pump in it or both. I haven't done anything to mine other than keep an eye on it and not let the oil change go too far as Dodge claims it can. Like you, I'm well aware of the exhaust bolt ticking issues and it is not that! And it doesn't matter what type of oil you use either because it does it with both types. Mine also did it once during very cold freezing weather too...it lasted a couple of minutes and it was a couple of 100 miles before the factory oil change light came on. I just changed my oil the last couple of times I heard it and it goes away for at least 3000+ miles unless I go far in between oil changes.
I have read in more than one place that the Hemi tick is actually the pump in the automatic transmission. This could be one of several possible causes.
