Rear Diff Fluid Change at 18k?
I dont mind having an inspection, but I WILL not be snookered into having to get a diff fluid change.. that is crazy..
ON another note, I dont know if all Dodge dealerships do this but mine has a oil change special..
He told me they don't have to be used in any particular time frame but if I spend 192.00 for 12 oil changes it works out to 16.00 a change..for a HEMI. I am not due yet but I am buying the deal when I need my first change...my first one is 9.99 then the next one I am getting the package. That is a deal. It isnt worth me doing it myself at all..
I told him about the 2500 mile light and he said Dont worry about that, go buy the schedule in the book. I think it it was like 5K or something for my driving habits..

Their price is out of line and it may not be required but it's a smart move to change the fluid in the rear after initial break in, see here http://www.upmpg.com/lubricationnews...l_maintenance/. Plenty of vehicles go 150k or more on the factory fill in the rear, but I wouldn't do that to my truck.
It use to be 15K, the upped it.
DIY costs, $45-50. Syn came in it from the factory. Syn is about $15 a QT and you need 3 QT bottles. If you have a LSD be careful. Some of the SYN comes with the additive, some does not, in which case you would have to add the additive.

What about the oil change places that suck the differential fluid out that way. Would that satisfy the warranty? I have 5000 KM's or I should say 3000 miles and have had 2 oil changes already just from time alone....my wife drives it the most short stints to work and back. We changed it the first time at 2000 just to get the breakin stuff out. Then when I was getting my uconnect starscanned they decided cuz it was 3 months I was due...at 50 bucks I never planned on getting the oil changed a second time there. I am told that short stints are as bad as driving it hard true? I keep and eye on the colour and smell of the oil.
I would ask the dealer what they do to change the differential fluid so you know what will meet warranty requirements. It's a good idea to pull the cover if you have a limited slip b/c they are known to fail in the 3rd gens due to a faulty part and I don't think dodge fixed it in the 4th gens.
Short trips are tough on oil b/c the engine will not always reach operating temp. or not be there long enough to get rid of moisture and other things in the oil. In your case and in order to preserve the warranty keeping the oil changed according to the severe service schedule from dodge is a smart move.

Found this thread after doing my search today. Ive got a 2005 Hemi Quadcab 4x2 with 26k miles. Took it in for my free oil change and saw on the report it needed a rear diff oil change. I told the guy why hadnt anyone mentioned that before as they do all my oil changes and all he could do was shrug his shoulder so I figured he was full of crap and left. After researching the manual it says for sched. B you are supposed to do it every 15k miles. Sched. A needs it done at 30k miles. News to me, I dont think Ive ever had that stuff changed in any of my cars ever (my bad, but true), including a 4x4 tacoma and a 4x4 Nissan. I guess Ill wait til I get my next free oil change and have them do it then, Im pretty sure it will be ok til then.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the limited slip diff is factory available with the 3.55 gear.
