Angry Tranny Frustration

Well, I have let the dealer work on my transmission for the last time. I am tired of hearing we can't find anything wrong with it. So I gues the rest of you owners 's transmissions delays in shifting into 1st when put into Drive , slip in and out of gear ( forward and reverse), if it goes into gear at all with out having to kill the engine and restar....this is normal and nothing is wrong??? It all started with the silly thing going directly to 4th gear and and being unable to get it out of it without restarting the engine..Anybody else have these problems? I am definatley going to start replacement procedures with Chrysler. Anybody with advice, besides painting it a lovely shade of LEMON YELLOW....

i thought this was coved on this forum already and there was a fix for it. I can't recall, but i think it was a module that controlled it...

I'm sure someone will chime in and hook you up.

good luck.

I'd love to hear what the resolution for this is as well. My truck has done the 4th gear start thing one time, and freqently takes up to 5 seconds to shift into Drive or Reverse when cold. Searched but didn't find anything, and the dealer keeps telling me they can't repro it. Irritating for a brand new truck.

Yes , there was a fix for the Transmission getting stuck in the 4th gear, it was a computer flash that so far has seemed to correct this. I started that thread. I had to take it directly to the dealer with it in 4th gear (30 miles) without killing the engine in order for them to find the problem though. My main concern now is the time it takes to shift into gear as well as dropping in and out of gear...especially after it has sat a few hours. Sometimes it has taken 10 seconds to shift to first after I put it into Drive usually dropping in and out before it stays there. The other day I waited 30 seconds for it to go into Reverse....Never did. Had to restart engine. the frustrating part is the dealer can't find a problem and seems they will not bother to change any module or try anything without having some sort of error code. Fortunately I already had an appointment the next day to have the Cruise Control Lever replaced that had fell out of the steering column. I was driving through a residential area and the steering wheel kind of locked on me as I was beginning to turn a corner, so I man-handled it and it gave way to turn . I pulled over cause it scared me a bit and found the Cruise lever flopping in the wind. Just seems to never end with this particular truck.

I have been fighting the problem of the truck going into 4th gear, since I purchased my truck at the beginning of October. Over 200 of the truck's 1200 miles have been spent to and from the service department and on test drives. The truck would just shift into 4the gear (that ERS function) while driving. The only way to disengage the ERS is to turn the truck off. There was once when I had turn it on and off several times to get it to clear and to go into drive. A couple of times the truck would actually stall when the condition occurred (not good in traffic).

It went back to the stealership four times. Three of those times the truck was stuck in fourth and the condition was present when I pulled into the service bay. There is a TSB about reflashing the computer, but that did not solve my problem (the first three times all they did was reflash). Of course, the stealership could also not "confirm the problem" (although it was there when I turned the truck over, to them).

The fourth time I got Chrysler and the management at the stealership involved, since it was lemon law time. With Chrysler's help, the stealership mysteriously found another TSB (so they said). The ultimate fix was a new PCM. I've had the truck back for a week and so far, so good.

Other than this problem. I love the truck. It other wise shifts fine. I can barely tell as it moves through the gears and the transmission is far smoother than any of the other makes that I test drove. My MDS works flawlessly and it gets pretty good mileage for a brand new Hemi during its break-in (13.9 to 15 MPG city). I have read other posts about owners with the same problem as ours. Ultimately, the fix seems to be replacing control modules, in addition to reflashing. I encourage you to call Chrysler about your problem. They need to hear about it and they also seemed to get my stealership off their backsides to fix my problem.

Best of luck.

Take it back one more time, talk to the service manager or the owner if you have to and tell them if they don't fix your problem 100% perfect THIS last time that you will simply lemon the truck. I bet it gets done correctly!

how many times do you guys have to bring something back for the same problem before you can execute the Lemon law. Man I wish they had that here, not for this truck so far but other vehicles I have had, actually just one.

That depends on the state. In Florida, the vehicle must go back three times during the period of the initial warranty, for the same problem. After three tries, Chrysler gets one more try to fix the problem. If it is not corrected after the fourth try, the Lemon Law process starts.

So far so good on my fix (fourth try). I'll keep everyone posted...

Well after talking to Dodge.. they wanted me to take it to another dealership. This dealer kept it for 3 days and replaced the transmission pump and replaced the valve pack.... Got it back and immidiately could tell the difference in the way it shifted. This dealership reported finding 2 seperate trouble codes... I can't believe my original dealership kept telling me nothing was wrong. Needless to say I will not have any more work done by them again. Hopefully all of my Frustration is over....
