i had a 2 chamber Flowmaster on my '04 5.7 Hemi Ram and it sounded mean, but after a few months when on the highway the resonating from the exhaust started to vibrate my brain into a headache. I just bought a '09 5.7 Hemi Ram and went with the magnaflow 18" retrofit kit from mufflex. It sounds great, nice low growl at idle and cruising that doesnt get annoying but when you floor the pedal that Hemi rips out a sound that turns heads everywhere.

So I'm thinking of doing some exhaust work on my Hemi 1500, but don't really know enough about it to make an educated decision on what I want. I'm thinking of trying out the Magnaflow, but not sure how I'd want to go as far as mufflers or pipe itself.

14" or 18"? What difference would it make? I'm looking for something that has a low rumble, and sounds good at WOT, but not looking to give myself a headache on road trips.

Also, for pipe...Mine's a single exhaust, comes out behind the right wheel. I'm not really crazy about going to duals from the cat back, but if it'd improve performance I'd certainly consider it. But if I leave it at single pipe, would it be better to simply swap out the stock muffler for the new Magna? And if I do that, what about the resonators? Leave them in? Have them removed?

The complete dual kit is something like $860 from Magnaflow, but unless I'm gonna get a pretty serious performance upgrade, I'd probably just be happy with swapping out the muffler and calling it good.

Thoughts?

I just bought a Magnaflow(16870) catback on Ebay yesterday, this is a dual exhaust setup, if you stay with a single exhaust it'll cost you about $50 less than what I paid. I made an offer of $534(free shipping) for the exhaust that had a buy it now of $666.Its from the seller called performancepeddler. This seller has quite a few more of single and dual exhaust catbacks. As far as improved performace, I would say yes, the Magnaflow website stated 10HP gain, you not gonna feel it, I have read its more responsive than the stock exhaust.

If anyone decides to ditch their stock duals for aftermarket and want to sell any of the OEM parts I would be happy to purchase the muffler and pipes and tips for a reasonable charge.

Trendkill, the post that I made here https://dodgeforum.com/forum/4th-gen...-question.html will hopefully help you. I did a simple muffler swap. I have had a wide variety of exhaust systems over the years in various vehicles and the 18" Magnaflow is the best all around muffler that I have owned. The thread that I am referring to has part numbers as well as prices and even on the high end of getting it welded, you are saving $100 or more over the "mufflex" kit.

not all magnaflows are glass backs. I have mags on mine and deff give you that HEMI rumble, but mine are also true dual exhaust so it is very loud and aggresive.

I installed the spintech street/strip muffler, and removed the resonators. Its pretty damn loud but it sounds GREAT. Next time I probably wont remove the resonators.

Exhaust is very subjective. What gives one person a headache is very different from what is too loud for another. I had a SI/DO Magnaflow on my '07 Ram and I was very happy with it, but my wife thought it was too loud. After the intake, tuner and exhaust, the truck was just becoming too loud to hold a phone conversation over bluetooth when driving home.

On another note, the shop I had the exhaust on my '07 done at stopped installing Flowmasters on all Rams with MDS b/c too many customers complained about them not sounding good in 4 cylinder mode.

This time around I just removed the resonators and that is loud enough for me. I think the days of loud exhaust are behind me..... It's more show than go. But if someone showed me a reasonably priced exhaust with documented performance gains, I'd consider it.
