Default 17 vs 20s

What are the advantages and disadvantages to running 20s vs 17s. My truck came equipped with the stripped down steel wheel 17s, I don't mind the 17s but want to replace the wheel to an all black or factory 17 that looks good. What is the difference for performance, not just looks in replacing the 17s with 20s?

You will lose about 1000 lbs. in tow rating with the 20's but if that is not a concern, the tires are cheaper in most places with 17's, they both look good

"say no to DUBS" im getting that as a sticker for my truck. my dad has the 20s on his 09 Ram and they look good but it is still a personal opion. and tires are cheaper, more size options for 17s

Advantages: People will notice your truck more, women will smile, wink and ask for a ride, blouses will part, champaign will flow from the heavens, etc...

Disadvantages: You loose 1,000 lbs towing. But that's factoring in the stock 20" tires. You might be able to find light truck tires with a higher load rating if the towing thing is an issue for you.

I say go with the 20's. Actually, in my opinion, the truck is so large, I think proportionally, the 20's almost look a little small. Have you considered 22's?

if you plan on getting bigger mud tires, it's almost 1/2 off to put them on 17"s then to put them on a 20"

thats where my post comes into play. i have a 4x4 and will be lifting it and putting 35s on it. and that too will make skirts part and i perfer beer flowing from the heavens. but i like the look of both. 20s on a 2wd and 17s with mud tires on 4x4

BFG's 35x12.5x20 KM2 Mud for 20"s are around 480-500 ea.

Same tire for 17"s are around 250-290 ea

I question losing a 1000 lbs towing with the 20s. If you look at the 2010 towing capacities there isn't much difference between the 17s and 20s.

The did not make a single change for 2010 over the 2009 in the engineering but they have given the Rams a higher tow rating.
