Default Exhaust question

ok so i have read peoples opinions on magnaflow or flowmasters and how the flows are louder but some say magnaflow have better back-pressure which is better for fuel milage.
so heres the question. i left all the exhaust the same except i cut out the big muffler and just put pipe in replace of it. sounds great and wouldnt want a different sound. that being said i get crappy fuel milage so any lil thing that helps im interested in. if i put on either of the two brands above would milage get better? would you get the same sound? what if you took out the resignator and had one of them mufflers installed. better milage and sound? open to all other suggestions as well.
if it makes a difference or not. 5.7L hemi with the laramie duels. XDI intake diablo programmer.

my 5.2 dakota has true dual 40 series flowmasters. My 5.9 ram has the magnaflow system.. you cannot hear my ram running when the dakota is on at idle and nothing compares to flowmaster when you really crack on the throttle. Magnaflow is a lot more of a really deep sound not so obnoxious.

As for millage, a friend of mine has a ram with 5.2 and 33's and just has a pipe for a muffler like you. mine being a 5.9 and 35's gets a lot better millage...

I personally don't think there's going to be too too big of a difference between those two mufflers as far as mpg. Gut your converters or take them off completely that will help with millage, power and, loudness. Im going to get rid of my magnaflow and try Borla. I heard dual Borla's on a rumble bee and fell in love You might want to look into the edelbrock sdt muffler also.

your mileage went to garbage because you have too little back pressure. Everybody always thinks 'restrictive, restrictive, restrictive', the more restriction you get rid of, the better. But that's only really true at very high RPMS when the motor is really sucking and blowing. In normal low RPM driving loads, not having ENOUGH back pressure will also eat HP and fuel efficiency.

Basically, what you gain at the top end, you lose at the bottom.

I put a flowmaster original 40 on today. It is coming off Monday. There were issues. Shop put a 2.5 in/out with a piece of pipe to fit the 3 in stock pipe. When I realized what they did and called dude he tried to convince me that there was not a significant difference. I insisted on him putting on what I paid for. He called around. No 3 inch 40 series, no 3 inch Super 44, no 3 inch 50 series. I even searched and nobody had them in stock, so I have to go back monday. Thinking about either Super 44 or Magnaflow 14 inch.
Sorry...not trying to thread jack, just saying that the original 40 is loud as hell..even with 2.5 inch in/out.

personally i like the 2.5 sound, its got more of a crackle to it but not annoying like a glasspack. But it all come down to preference. the super 44 sounds good though its not as loud as the original 40

The muffler seems to mello out a bit. I think I just got used to it. Still plan on replacing it though. The drone on the highway is what gets me. Not sure if a Magnaflow 14 inch will be any better but I think that's what I am gonna try.

I have the 14. But you can not call it economical. It works great if you want to do the work yourself. But you can go to almost any muffler shop and they will put the same muffler in for the same, or even less.
