Ah you can't post about how you use flat head screw drivers anymore, I gringe when I read it. LOL I would think the heat gun idea might melt the plastic no? Anyway simple operation, keep the steel tool away, in fact no prying at all, you could ding your door. Then you have to put them back on to cover the ding. The waxed dental floss cuts thru nicely

 

ALso much easier to do this if it is about 80 outside. However not to hot. For example.... THe side I did in the shade was easy (at 80 air temp). The sticky stuff left over after using the fish line came off in big chunks. Where as the sunny side of the truck was to gooy (is that a word?) and more difficult to get off.

 

Please don't use any metal tools. No matter how careful you try to be, you're bound to fug up your paint. If you need a pry-tool, grab a plastic spatula from your kitchen.

 

Does anyone have any before and after pics? I am toying around with the idea of taking them off.

I used a heat gun and some strong, thin fishing line...then finished up with some Goo-Gone...

The heat gun won't hurt the paint or the badging as long as you pay attention. Just hit it with enough heat to allow the line to slide behind the badge. If you've got two people, it's even easier... Use the Goo-Gone to clean up any residual adhesive left behind and you're done.

The Goo-Gone will take the wax up, so you should probably apply a coat to the finished area....

No pics, but I've done my 4Runner, Grand National, and will be doing the Ram as soon as the weather clears up....

 

I have always used a blowdryer then use windex to take remaining glue off......

 

Here are the pics. I posted "in my gallery" from my blackberry as of course it would have been a pain to hunt them down with it. The day I got it home and a month later. I think badges look better on certain colors, Silver being the best. The Inferno Red I think with and without both look good. All preference.

 

I used a wide 1.5" gasket scraper with a taped face and a peice of 1/8" silicone rubber behind it. Just pryed them off and cleaned up the goo. I have also found that they come off easier cold. When you warm up the adhesive it makes more of a mess to clean up and harder to lift. YMMV

 

When i removed my badges, I used fishing line to go behind the letters. then used clean rag and 3m adhesive remover. It didn't hurt nor scratch my paint
