To paint or not to paint, that is the question?

I got the same truck as you - I'm color matching both bumpers, and the outter part of the grill in the spring, I'll leave the center honeycomb black. I'm going to buy the SLT upper bumper cover - They are smooth and come primered ready for paint. The ST ones are textured and I dont want to have to sand it down.

What did you get for a price quote for painting? I planned on doing it myself and hope it won't be too terrible.

You are right about the upper bumper cover you have to buy a new one because of the texture. So as for the price, I have to buy the upper piece, have both front and rear bumpers removed sanded, painted and everything re-installed is $790, which includes tax. Plus I have used this guy before and his work is awesome. I just have to decide if I want to paint the bumpers or save the money for a down payment for the next truck. I cannot decide. This truck is not 4wd and it is starting to bother me.

You dont need to buy a new upper bumper, I'm having mine done too, all they did was put a primer underneath, cant even tell.

I went to another shop just for price sake and both told me the same thing, yes you can paint it but they will not guarantee the work because of the texture on the bumper. Plus by the time they do the prep work and prime the existing it was pratically the same cost as just buying the new piece that comes primed and doing it the right way. Not saying what you did is wrong just in my book I do not want to do it that way, I would rather spend the few extra bucks like 20 when it was all said and done and get it done with a warranty. Now if your shop warrantied their work then that is great for you. Just my two cents

If you get it done soon - post up some pics. It will be motivation for me to get it done sooner. I definitely plan on getting it done in the spring.

I'd be curious to see how it comes out too. I have a silver St that I got dirt cheap, under 18,000 out the door because it was from a dealer inventory that went under. But, I still have a problem paying 800 bucks to have 2 bumpers painted.

Okay so I finally decided what to do. I am going to have the bumpers painted white to match the truck. The truck goes in the shop on Wednesday to get the work done. I will post before and after pictures when it is all done.
