oil life monitor defaults to 2500 miles/4000 km unless gentler than average driving is detected, based on an algorithm containing total engine revolutions, acceleration, speed, temps, load etc etc etc... if you set your cruise to 100 kmh and roll along a perfectly flat road in an empty truck on a cool fall evening the sensor will not go off until 10k klicks. Otherwise anything down to 4k is normal.

I just changed this girls oil,...and her "change oil" light came on after 620 km.'s (378miles), of driving. My "professional" opinion is that it's just "sludge" built up on the sensor,..giving the wrong message to you/light comes on. You'd have to flush the system...keep changing the oil...BUT wh?...just change the sensor $$$$$ or live with it,...it sucks, but newer vehicles with this "light" is a PITA. (my expressed opinion by no means reflects on this forum.....)ha!.....................**** ...*or what "Frogslinger" said...

Just reset the light and change at the proper interval. No big deal.

The truck does not monitor the oil... it monitors conditions that will make the oil break down. You need to reset the system after each oil change. Otherwise it is like being shocked that your trip meter did not reset when you got to the end of the 150 mile trip and is reading 300 when you got home.

Again... the system monitors operating conditions that lead to oil degradation. It has no way of actually chaking if the oil is degraded.

Changed mine twice so far, once at 2500 miles (light came on) and I wasn't hard on it at all. The 2nd time at 5500 (again the light) - trip to the sand dunes with lots of high revs and climbing... and more 'using' the truck probably made the interval shorter. Seems kind of short, but what can ya do?

I hope I can make it to warmer weather for the next one, because if it comes on anytime soon - I'm not doing it.

Mine came on once at about 2500 miles. I have not seen it on since but I still have the oil changed in 2500 mile intervals. Too old to accept current recomendations I guess + i cosider it "cheap" insurance.

mine is on at 2500 mi. I guess i get it changed when I get to it. But I don't think we really need to before 5000 mi's. I mean guess I do it in intervals evaluating the oil at each change.

How do I reset the oil change message?
