Default First Snow-Some thoughts

Took the truck out today for the first time in the snow. We got about 10-12" last night. Took my wife to work and dropped my daughter off at my in-laws and headed to work myself. All-in-all I was out about 2hrs this morning driving.

A few thoughts and observations:

The plastic console (Sport CC with buckets) rattles/squeaks like crazy when it's cold. Gets better once the cabin warms up. Got the dreaded seat squeak as well. Very noticable with the cold.

I had no issues with the 4WD. Some describe and vibration when in 4wheel but I didn't have any issues. Even had it on the highway up to 45-50mph with no difference.

And for the tires. Well...honestly they were a bit better than I expected. I live in a hilly area so they got a good work out. They're tolerable as long as you don't need to stop and then go in deep snow. I almost got stuck in the in-laws unplowed driveway on flat ground. The truck just wouldn't dig in. It tends to slide easily for the same reasons.

I know a little bit about snow traction since I've been plowing snow every year but this year since I was in my teens.

Bottom line is they work but I will have to alter my snow driving habits a bit. If I had to drive in this weather alot they'd be history. But since I'm not plowing this year I don't have many places to go when it snows.

Overall I still think this is a great truck. It does have a few small issues that tend to drive ya nuts. Tires can be changed but squeaks and rattles can be a PITA to take care of.

I'm out in Jersey and had about 4'' of snow and had no problems with the stock tires other than a slide here and there especially around corners. But overall the truck performed flawlessly and am extremely happy.

we had about 20 inches, i had no problems what so ever even on huge hills, very impressed
but the dash and console rattling so much was enough to give me a headache...

All cars/trucks with plastic rattles when it's cold out, my house cracks and snaps and pops in the winter and when windy, house cost way more and well no warranty for that stuff. I bet the rattling stops when the heat takes over. Wait I was out yesterday cold as heck and my console did not rattle at all and it has been off twice. Maybe my reinstallation was a better job than the boys at the factoryLOL. I used to work in one,in fact where they built my pickup in Warren Mi, I partook in an ISO audit when I was training to be an ISO auditor. They had they stuff together back then, surely its somewhat the same, I don't think they use ISO standards some other gear specifically for automotive...what I am told. Haven't worked in 9 years so I don't know for sure.

I work for the state and got called in to snow plow and there was about 2" on the road. The truck made the 20 mile drive. It handled well. I only saw one new Ram out playing in the snow while I was plowing. A bunch of cars tried to venture out only to get stuck. People are idiots when it comes to snow storms. At times the snow was coming down 3" a hour. We couldn't keep up with the main routes, yet people are passing us and jetting 35mph down the road. Then you see them stuck down the road a bit. 54 hours later on 3 hours of sleep, we got the roads clear and cars unstuck. What a storm!
