ok, next idea. is their anyway to tie it into the cargo light switch?

so it ONLY comes on when you press it. not everytime the actual cargo light is activated. i.e. unlocking doors, etc....

that would be ideal. plus i can see the reflection of the cargo off my bed cover so it would remind me to turn it off..

What backup lights are you talking about from recon? if they are back up lights, why not tie into the backup lights on the truck???

use a relay and use the cargo light as the signal wire.

If the main purpose is for backing the truck up, I'd power them off the reverse lights, but have a switch in the loop to break or complete the circut when you do/don't want to use them. That way they generally come on and off aumoatically, but can be disabled when you desire.

i talked with a member on the forums here who is very familiar with all of the wiring projects etc.

i have since decided to run them off of a stand alone rocker switch. they will be powered by the battery, with an inline fuse.

i looked today, i feel comfortable putting the switch somewhere next to my power seat adjustments. its out of sight, not on the dash anywhere, and to most people will look somewhat factory....plus its easy to reach when sitting, without leaning one way or the other..

Are you going to use a relay? If you wire them direct to the battery, one day you will leave them on and forget about it, and when you get back to your truck the battery will be dead. A relay would prevent that from happening and also let you use a smaller switch without having to run the full current from the battery to the switch to the lights.
