Default airlift 1000 clunks

Hey you guys with Airlift 1000 bags, are you experiencing any clunking noises when the rear comes up over certain types of bumps or terrain? I think what I am hearing is that big poly spacer that sits on top of the bags but I am not sure. The bags work well I was just wondering if anyone else has heard this noise, I mean the install was pretty cut and dry no real rocket science involved. I guess that poly spacer has to go somewhere as it just sits inside the coil so my guess is it will clunk once in a while. Anyway thanks for any info you guys can give , much appreciated!!!

do you notice it with the bags inflated at high pressure or do you notice it with the bags at low pressure with nothing in the bed? My first guess would be that you had deflated the bags to 0 psi which you are not supposed to do. You should always leave at least 5 psi in them even when you are not hauling anything. another thing to check would be the rear sway bar, I have not heard of there being a problem with them but if you have a bushing out of the rear sway bar then you would hear a thud over larger bumps.

i hear the clunking noises too when going over certain types of speed bumps or very rough surfaces. i thought it was stuff i had in the ramboxes, but still there after i removed everything.
i do have the airlift 1000 bags but left about 5 - 7 lbs in them. i'll check to see if they are still inflated when i get home.

I have a clunking noise only out of the driver side on sharp bumps. I was thinking that something sounded loose. I am going to check it out before pointing it out to the dealer. Mine have between 7 and 10 lbs in them right now.

it almost sounds like the bed isn't tighten onto the frame properly.

Just to let you know I keep 15 psi in the bags all the time. Maybe I should try 5 or 10 psi instead I will do it tomorrow. This problem only occured after I installed the bags but it makes sense that you would get a clunk once in a while with that spacer is just riding on top of the bag like that. O well they work well anyway.

I also had the clunk with the Air Lifts. I ended up taking them out. I just talked to a guy that has the same setup and he also had the clunk. He fixed it by using a hockey puck on top of the poly spacer, just drilled a hole through it for the air line. The poly spacer is loose in there unless you have a load in there. I am going to re-install my bags, along with the pucks to see if it solves the problem. I was going to buy the Firestone bags instead because they have thinner spacers which make the install easier, and the bags are taller than the Air Lift...BUT, they discontinued the "air bag only" kit which was about $100, and replaced it with a kit that includes the Ride-Rites, and charge more than double the price. So I will try this setup first.

I recently changed from the firestone bags to the airlift ones since my firestone ones blew out in the winter and I can tell you that the firestone bags are no taller than the airlift ones.

A guy down the street from me has the Firestones in his '09 and they clunk too. He had a local tire shop sell/install them. Took it back and they told him "they all do that".

He had it back to them last weekend because they started leaking air (he's had them for about 2 months). Dunno what the outcome was of that, I'll have to keep an eye out for him and find out...
