Default Payload/Hauling

Well i have a question, never hauled anything that weighed alot before. Tomorrow my friend wants me to take him to lowes to pick up some pellets for his wood stove. He needs to get 50 40lb bags, so total weight of like 2,000lbs. Will i be able to take it all in one trip??? Any advice greatly appreciated like i said never hauled anything heavy before, also if anyone has ever gotten these bags there how do they load them into the bed, or do you do it bag by bag. Any help appreciated thanks

Around here they load the pallet with a fork truck if you buy the whole thing.

2,000 lbs puts you overweight though. I'd split it into 2 trips since your max payload is probably in the 1,600 range which includes occupants and load. a 1500 is considered a 1/2 ton truck meaning you can generally haul about 1/2 ton in the bed. Depends on the engine and gears, who and what is in the cab though to get the exact figure.

That half ton means half a ton of payload is not accurate.... that is what used to be true in about 1985 but half tons are far more capable today.

Even given this, you will be overloaded. My advise would be to go to uhaul and get an open trailer and just tow it... less wear and tear on the truck.

If you do haul the whole ton in your bed I am sure the truck will take it. Ratings are very conservative.

I have in my official capacity been forced to tow a trailer with a 1200 lb tongue weight with a class 4 receiver rated to 600 lbs. (ford f250 diesel)

I have also hauled trailers that are multiple tons over capacity (20+), of course that is a whole different kettle of fish. (Freightliner M915)
