Default I've never been quite happy... Opinions PLEASE

Ok long story short. I traded in my 3rd gen for the 4th gen in a combo deal for the wife to get a jeep. I've never been totally happy with the truck. It just looks smaller to me. I LOVE the crew cab but the bed is tiny and it just looks lower.

I'm SERIOUSLY looking at a 2010 2500. They look to have the crew cab with a regular length bed and seem a little more stout and seem to sit a little higher.

Can anybody vouch for the tougher look? I'm looking at internet pics. Any other opinions... other than I'm a dum dum of course... I'll get enough of that from the wife.

Dude, the 2500 looks MEAN as all get out! I just saw one sitting at the dealership the other day when I drove by. I stopped in because I thought it was a particular sport package on the 1500 Rams but I was wrong, it was a 2500! That thing is the shiznittleknocknikkitynam! Go for the 2500!!!!

lol... the power wagon might be a little outside my price range. Other than the possible diesel and the longer bed... what would be the other differences between the 1500 and 2500..... Not real familiar with the latter.

HD/5.7 - marginal payload/towing gains
CTD - major gains
PW - 4.56 & very unique off road features
CTD TRX4 - 4g's over a PW

Return to leaf springs, crunch the #'s, want or need? Park beside a '10 4x4 dually!

I'm really torn on whether or not I should just wait and get a lift or trade in for a "tougher/bigger" truck.

the interior is just about identical.
the truck sits about 2-3 inches higher
the front clip is very different. Both trucks use the same headlights, but the fenders hood grill and bumper are all different; mainly the grill is taller, the hood has some very cool character lines and there is more room between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the headlights.

All that said, the gen 4 1500 is in fact larger than the gen 3, it just looks smaller. You are going to be paying a lot more for the same level 2500... I saw a tx edition CTD 4x4 with REN with an msrp of 51000. I do not think you can price a laramie 1500 that high. Plus you are going to loose 5-10k at least on your trade... so...

decide what you want before you by it next time. Dum Dum.

Well, the 4th GEN is shorter overall, mainly due to the "chopped" top.

The HD looks bigger from the front for two reasons

1. It does sit higher
2. The grill is bigger and the hood is taller, although you loose the cowl part of the hood. From what I have read the grill is bigger to accomodate a larger cooling system for the CTD.

IMHO, unless you need a HD just put a lift on your 1500 with some 35s and call it a day.

As long as you dont get the 6.7 you will be ok. I traded my 6.7 for my TRX4. I plan to lift it 6 inches with 35s. Now I will buy the late 2012/13 Cummins when they go to Urea injection for emissions. I have seen that engine first hand and it is the cure all for the 6.7 but wont be in the 2500-3500 trucks until late 2012/13 but you will see it in the 4500 trucks late 2011 early 2012. I would wait on a diesel if I was you. But if you are looking at a 2010 Hemi 2500, the one I have for a loaner right now only went up to 12 mpg on the overhead as I drove it 180 miles down the hwy today.
