I run synth (Mobil 1) for the longer drain intervals. I find that even with double the mileage, the oil looks better than the regular dino stuff when drained. Just be sure to use the correct grade which is 5W20 for our trucks.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess after the first two oil changes I'm gonna go with either Royal Purple 5W20 or Mobil 1 5W20. I'm going to be keeping this truck for a long time so I would rather spend the extra $$ on better quality stuff for it oil, gas, parts etc. I've been like that with all my other car's so why stop now.

I'm also up for my first change and I noticed something today when I went to the store to buy some oil. RP was the only one there that doesn't have the API stamp of approval on the front. I have never used RP and I would like to. I was gonna research some more between RP, Mobil1 and Amsoil before I made my final decision. Maybe some of you guys could lend some of your knowledge on that.

Also, does anybody remember that website that some guy made about oil? Bob's oil or something. I don't remember his name. I wanted to read through his site again. Thanks.

I just thought that this would be good info for those who know how to read it-

Mobil 1 Extended Performance
5W-20
5W-30
10W-30 SAE Grade5W-20 5W-30 10W-30 Viscosity, ASTM D 445 cSt @ 40º C47.4 61 66.1 cSt @ 100º C8.9 11.0 10.7 Viscosity Index, ASTM D 2270 171 169 148 Sulfated Ash, wt%, ASTM D 8741.0 1.0 1.0 HTHS Viscosity, mPa•s @ 150ºC ASTM D 4683 2.7 3.1 3.1 Pour Point, ºC, ASTM D 97-51 -48 -45 Flash Point, ºC, ASTM D 92235 230 230 Density @15º C kg/l, ASTM D 4052 0.86 0.86 0.86 As you can see there is VERY little difference in the change of oil weight. I would not hesitate to go to 5-30 0r 0-30 as they are the same as 5-20 or 0-20. I used to run 15-50 in my VW Jetta at minus 30+ below, when my gas truck would not even start...really. The flow rate for these oil are all the same with in 2-5 celcius, if it get that cold....run! They only put thes so called weight on the bottles because old school says you need it on there to see it. Don't believe, give them a call....had a friend who worked with Mobil in NY

Hey all, I started using Mobile 1 with the first oil change (after 3,000 miles) was this too soon? Should I have allowed for a longer breakin period? I ask because I just hit 8,000 miles and my mileage has started dropping. but that could be the cold weather. Thanks

16k kms. on Mobil1 5W20 and no issues. I've used Mobil1 for over 20 years in all my vehicles and I'm a firm believer in the stuff. I'm sure that's why I got 500k kms. on my Neon without ever opening that engine up. Ran the same after 12 years of commuting as the day I bought it.

You've got to ensure that you use the correct vicosity 5W20. I've read that if you don't you may have issues with the MDS and this came from Dodge themselves.
