Default 2010 tow ratings

I was looking at the spec sheets and noticed that they list the 2010 is listed as 77 pounds lighter. everything I read said that nothing has really changed and idea why the weight difference?

I am in the process of buying a trailer and the 2009 limit is hard to stay under so I want to believe the 2010 is the one to go by.

yeah I am reading into this a great deal but am new to hauling a trailer and want to keep my family safe.

The truck frame and drive train capability is not a safety concern on the RAM.

The "driveability" and "engine loading" considerations are factors influenced by the final drive ratio which is dictated by differential gear ratio and tire size.

My trailer towing experience leads me to believe that if I tow a load that is less than 80% of MAX towing capacity of the truck there are NO PROBLEMS.

Anti-sway-load compensating hitch, and trailer brakes are of course mandatory for trailers above 3,000 lbs (???)

Happy towing !!!!

If you are having trouble keeping the GCVW under the max with what you want to tow, then you seriously should of looked at the HD instead.

but i dont fully agree with you on this. i am purchasing a trailer that weighs 4900 pounds. the max tow is 6200 but if you compare my model, 3.55 laramie 4wd crew cab rating from 2009 to 2010 there is a 2000 pounds increase in CVWR, that is huge. even at the current gvwr of 12000 i have plenty of room if i do some simple math, trailer 4900, truck 5612=10,512, leaving me 1488 pounds of family and gear, i think that is ample. my point is more that if I was to go with the 2010 data I dont even have to consider staying at 1488 or below. 2000 pounds is a lot of towing capapcity.

anyhow I know this topic is beaten to death as I did a search but when I look at the sheets side by side I am wondering why the vehicle weight is listed different for the same vehicle.

thanks!!

Well, I know the 09 vs 10 spec sheets are confusing but consider this:

I tow a 4500 lb travel trailer with my 4.7 05 dakota that weighs 4600lbs and have no safety issues. Power issues and overheating? Yes a little.

So I bought a RAM, same Powertrain as yours. I may throw 3.92 gears in it for increased MPG though.
