Talking Ebay Intake Quick Review Flame and you die!

So I FINALLY got the intake in tonight as the sun was going down, but of course I had already removed the stock box so it was time to go to work. Literally 20 minutes later the whole thing was installed as directed. Fitment is great, the bracket looks cheap but does it's job. Took it for a spin and all is good. Overall for an "eGay" intake I think it's a pretty good setup. I've had a few before and they were extremely cheap and not well made. This one is nice and the rubber sleeves are even "split" in the middle to give a clear indication that both pipes are in at the correct depth. I'll keep an eye on the mileage over the next month or so and update. Hopefully pics tomorrow when the sun comes back up.

Please keep in mind that I've blown some cash on this truck and this is a cheap attempt at improving the mileage. The best I've gotten stock is 16 mpg with the tires and the 3.92.

I think that intake is great. If you are going to do something as useless as a cone filter on a bunch of tube then paying as little as possible is the smart way to go

Ack, my heart

Better off with a K&N in the stock air box.
$80, 5 clamps & a mini cone filter doesn't cut it.

I have been wanting to do the same, but have not seen one for the 2009 4.7L. Will the 2008 kit fit the 2009?

LOL.... To answer the next question, it's not huge. I guess probably what you would consider a "standard" sized cone filter. If it's worth a flip, I'll get a good sized K&N.

As for the "Metal Tube & Filter" comment. K&N for years has made a short ram intake for various vehicles that is exactly that, a tube and filter, nothing more.

I believe the whole idea is more surface area on a more breathable filter, with no ribs on the intake pipe to facilitate a direct shot of air as cold as possible. The tube on this one is 3.5" in diameter.

Really time will tell whether it's worth $100 or $5. I'll take that plunge and keep everyone posted.
