Towing 30" travel trailer - buy a 1500 or 2500 4x4?
I am in the market to purchase a new truck. I have a travel trailer that I tow though. It is a 30 foot trailer that weighs 6700 lbs empty with a hitch weight of 660 lbs. Would a 2010 1500 crew 4x4 / hemi tow ok or should I go with a new 2500 hemi 4x4? I see they bumped up the tow ratings but my current 2004 1500 QC w/ hemi stuggles to tow trailer now. I am concerned with towing with the new coil springs. Anyone else here tow a large / heavy trailer with a 2009 or newer 1500 crew (4x4 / 20"wheels)? I am not towing in the mountains either. THanks
i bought a 30 ft 4800 pound trailer. there are people on here who pull you weight with a laramie cc 4x4 w/20 inch wheels and have no issues. the 2010 in that form was rates an additional 2000 pounds to 8400 and the truck stays the same.

I'm towing a similar same setup with a '09 1500 Hemi, 3.92 gears. Tows great and the stance and handling is perfect too with a good weight distribution hitch so no need to be concerned with the coil springs. Yes a 2500 would probably handle it better but the 1500 does just fine with this weight trailer and has more than enough power.

Thanks for the post. I was curious how my new Ram would perform with the coil springs.
How did you get an SLT with 17" wheels? I thought 20's were part of the SLT package.

Looks like the 4x4 with 3.92 axle & 20" tires is 9,900lbs.
17" tires adds only 50lbs.

That just might happen. If i swap out to 3.92 gears, I may want the 20's since they are almost an inch taller with the stock tires than my 17's and will net me closer to 3.80 effective gear ratio which I think will be ideal.
Will let you know in about 3 or 4 weeks.
But be advised: My 17's are Goodyear AT/S 275/70/17 32.2" dia. and while rated fairly high in most categories they "sing" on all road services. Somewhat annoying.
