can you pop out the key inside and take it with you...has anyone tried this yet to see if the fob still works with the pop out key removed

I'm curious, what's your average fuel mileage? It may be cheaper in the long run to build yourself a garage.
That is a joke right? You can leave a vehicle idling for over an hour before the needle will even move at all...

I am not a tree hugger or anything but there are several cities across the US that have outlawed excessive idling. It is environmentally irresponsible. 15 minutes is plenty. Even going that long in one of the cities that have the law you can get a hefty fine.

im not looking for an argument about wheather or not I should be idling my truck. I live in canada, its cold here, I dont expect anyone from the states (esp. cali, texas, az, fl) to understand why I need to let it idle.
Theres no laws about idling here. It is very common to go to a resteraunt or a shopping mall and see 50-60% of the vehicles outside idling.
I just had a question about the remote start and wondered if anyone had any ideas...

I do not think there is any way to do it... do not underestimate the states, or TX... I live down here after living in MI... MI gets really cold, but then onc e in a while so does TX.

Yes the key pops out, Ive never tried to take it out while its running, I always thought the security chip was in the "key" just like the older models. Ill hafta try that tho.

I guess i shouldnt generalize. I've just noticed that theres alot of attitude whenever Ive brought up idling or something like that on the forums. I get alot of flack because i "shouldn't" be idling more than 10-15 mins. and Im wasting fuel and hurting the environment.
I guess its just alot different here than alot of other places because its accepted and almost expected that during the cold times here that you let machines, equipment, and vehicles run more than usual.

Just cause it is accepted does not make it right...
Still i like a toasty ride so I cannot really blame you... still i do not think there is a way to do it. I would also not leave my keys in the car... too easy to break a window and just drive off... that is the advantage of remote start.

The truck will stay running with the key popped out. I have done that quite a few times.. I have the factory remote start, and I just wish you could hit the start button while the truck was running and take the key out, like aftermarket starters. Oh well.
