Default Mopar Locking Gas Cap is a POS

Just wanted everyone to know that the locking gas cap part # 05278655AB is a worthless POS. Not only is it hard to fumble with the key in the small gas door compartment but once you get the cap locked its easy as pie to push down a little on it crank it to the left and pop it right off again without unlocking it. I verified this with 2 different caps and new 2010 trucks. Worthless design. Anyone else experienced this or am I doing something wrong?

I will caution people with aftermarket caps. I bought one for my 05, what was suppose to be for my truck, and it did not hold pressure correctly. Ended up cutting out at 4K. On the way to the dealer I thought about the cap, removed and it was fine. So rather than go to the service bay I went to parts, got a new cap and I was good to go. (my original was stolen). Obviously not all aftermarket caps are bad, but just remember, if you put one on and a week later you have issues, go back to the cap.

Other than the cap, I have never had actual gas stolen, and I have been in shady places before. I think locking caps are over rated, but that is an opinion.

I've got one of the MOPAR locking caps also. It is kind of a pain to get the key in the whole and turn it but other than that I've had no issues with it. Never have tried getting it off without the key like someone stealing /tampering with your fuel would do. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks
