Lots of reasons.

1) Some of us have more than 30 gigs of music.

2) Some of us have music on our iPods that is in a format that the MyGig won't recognize or play. (I rip everything in Apple Lossless these days)

3) iPod integration gives MUCH better management of and access to Playlists.

4) iPod integration lets you navigate your Artists or Albums by typing the first letter of the name. When you have 500 artists and you're looking for something by REM, getting down to the R's using the HDD navigation is so painful it's just not worth doing. With the iPod, you can just touch the A-Z button, then touch 'R' and and it will take you right to the first artist that starts with an R.

5) When you add new music to your iPod, you don't have to also add it to to your truck stereo.

6) Podcasts

etc, etc...

The 30 gig HD in my radio is pretty much useless to me. If it would let me load movies onto it to watch, it might be useful (though, really, it should let me watch video off an iPod Video). Or, if it would at least let me load more than 5 pictures, and then maybe let me set them to run in a slideshow while it's playing music, that might make it useful. As it is, I put 5 pictures on it, that take up a whopping 100KB or so, and set one as my background picture. A total waste of a 30 gig HD....

More than 30 gigs of music, that amazes me. I don't how you have time to take a **** managing all that music.
If you have Voice Recognition seems that it is fairly easy to get to the music you want as long as you are updated with Gracenotes.
Movies on the HD would be silly since you would have to park to watch them, if you are law abiding LOL hmmmm with that much music J/K

I am just throwing all our cds on the hd first then I can bring them in the house and they dont get stolen since insurance co will only cover the one in the deck. I am going to go thru all my mp3's which where acquired years ago when Napster was a grey area. Those needed to be tagged correctly. I put them on a separate thumb drive, next time I am bored I will check to see if that works.
It is illegal to have a cell phone in your hand or an ipod or mp3 player while driving here.

I don't both with podcasts or even music videos at all. Kinda getting old for that except watching Fergie, or Kylie Minogue otherwise there are no need for music videos LOL
As far as the etc, etc,.....how much do all those etc.'s cost?

I bought my daughter a Dell laptop, top of the line 2 grand last year, now the school she goes to requires her to buy a Mac....so another 2 grand for half the computer. That is another issue with Apple the price for what you get. looks pretty but compatibility with different software and their proprietory issues again become an issue. I am not saying PC is perfect but...........at least you can change things around yourself you don't need a tech with special tools.(exaggeration) but you know what I mean.

I own somewhere around 400 or so CDs, I guess. Currently, a bit over 5,000 tracks on my iPod. And I have ripped them all myself. They are not currently all ripped using Apple Lossless encoding. That is a project that is in progress but proceeding slowly. When done, the size of all the music will probably be somewhere around 120 GB or so, +/- 30 GB.

I don't see what's so hard to imagine about all that. When I do get them all re-ripped, I'll buy an iPod Classic 160GB to store them all on.

If the MyGig supported it, I would also rip some DVDs to put on the iPod Classic so that I would have the option to watch them on the truck's LCD screen. Most movies are not good to watch while driving. But, I have found that certain movies (e.g. Jackass, The Movie) and most DVDs of stand-up comedy routines really help pass the time while on long road trips with buddies in the truck. Those kinds of DVDs you don't really need to *watch*, so much as hear. And maybe glance at the screen every now and then.

My g/f keeps her iPod loaded with podcasts all the time. NPR's Diane Rehm, Fresh Air, and This American Life, and Dan Savage's podcast out of Seattle. Those kind of podcasts also make a long road trip more enjoyable.

But, if none of that is for you, then by all means, load your CDs on your HDD and go to town! :-)

Buy an Allgig and the A/v cable and you can watch all the movies you want off your iPod. That is what I do. I like it. Works great.

I don't want to have to touch my iPod. I want to keep it like it is now, safely hidden away in the glove box. Not flopping around at the end of a cable, in the cable or console.

Watching videos is not that big a deal to me. Just a "would be nice". Allgig does not have any way to control the iPod from the MyGig touchscreen, so I'll just stick with what I have - iPod control from the touchscreen, but only for audio stuff. And only watching videos when parked (i.e. really, never). I can't see paying $300 for an Allgig just so I can watch video while moving - nor then having to deal with not being able to control my iPod if I want to use it as the video source.

Heh. Jaws, it sounds like it's time for a visit to a dealer.

Have you tried hooking up another iPod to your truck, just to make sure it's not a problem with your iPod?

My cable part # is 82212000. That's the "1.5m iPod Cable" that connects from the UConnect module (the UConnect that works my REN radio) to the iPod.
