Default GPS Satellite reception

I have a 2010 1500 with the RER system. I noted this morning that my GPS location kept moving off of the actual position, so I looked at the satellite info page and noticed that at best I was pulling only 3 satellites and frequently dropped them all. If memory serves, the owner's manual says you need to hold 4 birds to get a good fix.

Anybody else experienced this and is there a fix? I sort of wonder about placement of the GPS antenna under the dash, seems like it should have been up on the roof incorporated into the Sirius antennna.

Thanks!

Greg

if you have applied rain-X to the windshield of your truck, or use rain-x type windshield washer fluid, i heard the ingredients in the rain-x can block GPS signals. ... clean with alcohol, windex, or petroleum based product like bug and tar remover or laquer thiner and then try ..

i know it sounds crazy and i have no problems with my tomtom gps and my rain-x but i have heard online that this may be the cause..

I've got a garmin cig lighter plug in GPS. On occasion it can only get 1 or 2 sats and it has happened for as long as 20 minutes. Eventually it picks up the other sats.... It only seems very occasionally, and one time when I was miles out in the coutry away from any obvious interferance.

I've never used Rain X and have encountered the same kind of thing in what ever vehicle I take the GPS into, so I think it's just a glitch in GPS in general.

I'm pleased with my Magellan Roadmate 1700 (7" display) except for the mounting bracket... too long to mount on my bucket seat console right below the AC converter plug without interfering with the air control ****, but it does get good reception down there. I don't like it on the windshield or the dash.

No reception probs in rural but haven't tried in a "downtown" area.

I don't use rainx.

Haven't even had it 2 weeks yet. No Rain-X. I wonder if it's just bad antenna placement.
