You can take several less drastic short-term measures (you've got a SWEET ride).
1) Look at appropriate tires - the stock GY are poorly regarded
2) Look to carry chains whenever there's a chance you'll be Up North

I made a mistake and bought a 4x2 tacoma in 2008 when i lived in vegas but then i moved to missouri where it snows and it drove me bonkers not having 4x4. A week ago i finally made the move and got a killer deal on a 09 ram TRX4 4X4. Ive been where you have and it sucks. Take your time on getting a new truck until the time is right. You can manage with a 2wd but you have to be alot more careful.

A good LSD helps if you have a 2wd.

I still remember my old 2wd dually diesel and 40' trailer sinking in the mud at a dragstrip after a monsoon the night before many years ago. I had to get one of those giant semi tow trucks to pull me out while everyone with 4x4 trucks were long gone.

We havent got any snow here in the last 7-8 years but we got hammered this year and I'm glad I have 2 4x4s, even if it never snows again its worth having come trade-in time. But the less weight, better mileage, lower cost and less parts to wear out of a 4x2 is pretty appealing I'll admit.

wow. no 4x4 on that sexy truck!? I say trade it in for a 4x4. You are better off my friend. Big trucks should not be getting stuck like that.

At the job site one morning after a heavy rain one of the roads that has about 2 feet of dirt turned into mud. I switched my truck to 4x4 and was still slidding going 20kms. Everyone seems to be getting stuck besides the dullies hehe

I am surprised you werent even in real snow, we had 5 inches or so and the thing that everyone tries to turn off was plenty, could you gotten around without 4 wd but put it in just for safety. Is it ESP or something like that, that should have gotten you out of that little spot.

My tacoma had LSD and it did nothing for me in the snow. Dont believe the hype. PosyTraction is no substitute for 4x4. I have heard a good locker makes a difference though but if you spend the money on a good locker then might as well get 4x4. The only thing that helped me in the snow was 5-70 lbs sand bags over the axle.
